If At First You Don't Succeed...... Try Again

I've found a few ELW's in sole WD systems, I didn't think they were particularly special (else I'd have bookmarked them), so I can confirm they exist from personal experience - I have a 'patch' of WD's about 8KLy from Centre that has provided a few new classes too (for me) and nip out and wander the field every couple of weeks for a few hours, still loads more to go :)

Have you any system maps on these WD/ELW finds to put on here? and do you upload finds to EDSM?

Or are you confusing White Dwarfs with Neutron Stars? As you may know I've done thousands of WD systems and have found approx 15 ELWs orbiting secondary stars and now one orbiting a WD/second star. As only three systems with ELW orbiting a solo WD have been confirmed on EDSM I'm not saying your mistaken......

Well, actually I am saying that! 😉

Yes, I upload to EDSM, over all 3 accounts :)

I also believe I am being accurate - but if EDSM say otherwise, I must be incorrect, obviously ;)

(EDSM currently is incorrect on all 3 accounts with distance travelled despite being continuously fed from EDDiscovery... but everything else is accurate I assume)

Reached the second waypoint, the O star at Systimbie FG-Y G683 and now moving westwards to next destination. Still on a high after the ELW find around a combi WD and second star. The high will gradually fade off with days and weeks of boredom and non finds, "travelled a week and nothing of note.... not even one close orbiting HMC,,,,, am I ever going to find this ELW?....." and so on.

But at least I have EDDiscovery for company on my travels, a great app for explorers. The systems tab to tell me how many White Dwarfs I have visited on my travels-
EDD WD List.jpg

Perfect for the stat in me although the list does include the mythical WD types of DO, DOV and DX. Can't say I've found one of these and neither has the codex!

Should have used the app on my first tour in 2017. It was around then but as someone who had limited PC skills, had that primitive terror that "downloading an unlicensed app could cause viruses, steal my data and break my computer".... * (as I was writing this though this warning would sound great if it was voiced over by Morgan Freeman) 😂

So I did my own pen and paper version at the time- I have found a page of my scrawling's in my old archives...
Old WD List 2007.jpg

EDD does it a lot better 😂

This is not a perfect way at all- as I plotted for O and Carbon stars not all of these are WD finds. Sometimes I'd log out and return to get more or less jumps that what I had written and sometimes I would log on, plot my route and start jumping and forget to fill it in.

So off to the next waypoint in the hope I may find the orbiting ELW.... or maybe a DOV White Dwarf 😉

* two days after downloading EDDiscovery I did have a Windows failure. Had a system image so reloaded Windows and presumed EDD had broken my PC and vowed never to upload it again despite loving the app. Two more times in three months Windows failed again. The penny dropped that I must have a corrupt version of Windows so I bought and downloaded one of those Windows 10 discs from Ebay for £15 and never had a problem again..... Sorry I blamed you EDD!

Found another bleach ball, that's the third for the tour. Pleased that this one looks like a traditional Ammonia World instead of the dirty Ice World looking ones I have found so far.

Getting a few of these Mauve Adder disconnects recently and hoping it doesn't cause me issues. Mostly I have returned to the game with the WD safely away from the ship but one happened while jumping and when I logged back in got a warning that the body exclusion zone had been hit and was only 1.8ls away from the star. Supercruised away with no heat damage. Still remember the bug where cmdrs in Neutron Star systems were fried when logging in from disconnections and hoping I don't suffer the same fate.
If I do, the ticket will be flying to the Dev's.

Arrived at fourth and final waypoint on current trip and was about to head to Anchorage when Cmdr Vonpaulus said he had arrived around the core in his Carrier and would I like to meet up and throw some of that lovely exploration data his way?

Iger Saratoga QN-J 927.jpg

So total WD systems checked on tour is 19,090. Best find by far, and that includes the trip in 3303, is BYOOMEAE NE-H D10-3582 , the ELW co orbiting a WD and K Star.
And Earth Likes have been relatively common (in WD terms) on this trip. Including the co orbiting ELW I have found seven WD systems with ELWs and makes the total on tour to ten. Also orbiting a WD, one Ammonia World, four Water Worlds and one Terra HMC. But still no sighting of the elusive unicorn.

Will carry on with the tour but am taking a break as I'll stay with the Carrier for a while. Plus we are meeting with a Cmdr who set off on a tour in Feb 2015 and still hasn't returned so we aim to let him dock then shanghai him back to the bubble

Although the bets with us are he will crash and blow up on the landing pad of the Carrier!

Currently combining the WD hunt with the meeting of a long missing Commander on a Carrier owned by Cmdr Vonpaulus.

Cmdr Benedict Smee left on a tour in Feb 3301 , almost as long as the game has been publicly released and over five and a half years later is still on the same tour in the void.

Even Captain Kirk only had a five year mission! 😂

Found a map of original Four Corners Mission (click spoiler)
Four Corners Group 2.jpg

And, as you can see he hasn't travelled far in that time- approx 40,000 lyrs from the start point, in the Trojan Belt Region and not quite at first waypoint.

Currently the Fleet Carrier is within 5k of Cmdr Smee but progress has been slowed as a Cmdr from original mission is flying out for meet up. Me and Cmdrs Vonpaulus and Def Red are awaiting Cmdr Kynock Taylor and he is within a few days of Carrier.
Cmdr Smee is in good spirits but requests a vital delivery of Pot Noodles!

The delay on meet up has helped with the White Dwarf Hunt- am able to keep up with the Carrier through the WD field but this has now petered out around the middle of the Arcadian Stream so the hunt is on temporary halt. So, until meet up will locally explore around the Carrier and sell data.

Now, as someone who opposed a UC to be included on a FC I should not use the UC out of principle......but, but these Carriers costs creds......and I do have to contribute to it's upkeep....landing pads and seats don't come free with the ride......yeah, that excuse will hold up.😐

Now on to the finds. Never made a list of how many WD systems were checked in 3303 but found nine ELWs in WD systems, so when I found nine on current trip it took around 18,000 systems. Would presume this was around the total the first time. About the time of the ninth ELW find I come across my first co-orbiting ELW so in total took around 36,000 hits to find one.

This may be familiar to many explorers but it seems when you find an unusual system for the first time, you'll come across a similar system quite quickly. Just over a month and 1,000 jumps I found another co-orbiting WD ELW!

This one being a trinary so here is ABC1 at PHOI AUG JI-K D8-1775

So the tour is on temporary hiatus but will be back hunting- there's still the unicorn to find......I hope 🤞🤞🤞

Cmdr Benedict Smee has been rescued from the dark regions of the Galaxy after over five and a half years in the void.

To be honest, it was a bit of an anti climax. He dropped in to where the Carrier was based on a weekday early afternoon and the belated congratulations came a few hours later when the rest of us returned from RL to our gaming rigs, but at least it was a successful landing! 👍

And all those years in the black got him a total of 83 Million Creds. He, and the others, were shocked by the paltry amount but as most of his travels were done in the first few years, before the exploration pay out increase in early 2017 I knew it wouldn't be a huge amount but he was disappointed not to be an Elite explorer at the end.

So the Carrier headed to Colonia from this point and I stayed in area, headed to the nearest WD field and plotted towards the core, around 6k away.

But it has been a struggle to start the tour again. Over nine months of checking did wear me out mentally. The daft thing was when I left the WD field to meet up with the Carrier I was desperate to be blanketed in the WD field once more, but when I returned I felt tired and numb doing it again.

I guess I lost my gaming mojo. For a few weeks I couldn't face logging in....I was burned out.

But after a while the itch to get out there returned and, with a second wind in my sails, have reached destination. I have decided to check out the EOK BLUAE Sector.

There are three reasons for choosing this area. At around 2k from Sag A it is of a heavy density field where more jumps can be achieved per route. Also when I went through the area a few months ago found two ELW systems so hoping the ELW seeds are good there. Plus it is the area where Klepto found his T Star ELW...and perhaps, perhaps, perhaps lightning can strike twice there.🤞

So checking the Sector out now full of renewed hope and almost dreaming of jumping in to a WD system, hitting the FSS and a green blob showing up on the scanner....

Dear Cmdr Leif_Erikson, let me dedicate Rimmer's special semi-long formal salute in my avatar to you, as you are my eternal inspiration and hero! (hell I only jump randomly, without any real long term goal :)

I have never ever seen anyone in my life with such a dedication for one goal... A goal that seems almost unreachable, yet you seem to be unstoppable!

I wish you to find that unicorn soon. On that day, I will use Double Rimmer (a salute done using both hands) to celebrate your achievement!

And most importantly, I wish you to keep up the spirit, even when the journey to find one is over! (y)

PS: I still owe you those repair limpets... Hopefully one day... :)

Thanks for the words of encouragement SleepyDelegate 👍
Looking for a single minded ambition like an ELW orbiting a White Dwarf can feel like a treasure hunter armed with a metal detector and spade - one dig away from the find of a lifetime but perhaps half knowing it may never happen for them.

But, like the hopeful treasure hunter, will carry on- originally was going to see the year out but will carry on hunting until Odyssey arrives.

While comparing White Dwarf Hunting to treasure hunting - my metal detector started beeping and after a dig found something better than a bottle top.....

I came across another co orbiting ELW- that makes three for the tour!

This fine DC White Dwarf and L Star at EOK BLUAE OQ-Y D1178

Co Orbiting ELW1.jpg

Co-orbiting ELW2.jpg

As I was within 2k of Anchorage and carrying a lot of data decided to travel there and cash in. Re-joined the sector and within 30 jumps found another ELW in a WD system- orbiting a secondary M Star. That now makes four ELW finds at Eok Bluae :)

All looking promising here to find the unicorn ELW that needs no secondary stars to orbit it.

EDIT- and within 5 jumps of writing this I find a fifth ELW system at Eok Bluae- a CD2 ELW!

FURTHER EDIT- this is incredible, within 20 minutes of writing edit, I find a sixth ELW system around here- a B5 ELW. My metal detector is going mad :D
Just hope I'm not using up all my luck here!

May the Dwarf be with you.(y)

The Dwarf Force is with me at the moment. To put it in perspective, when I started tour I found two WD systems with ELWs out of 6,000 jumps. At this sector, within 100 jumps, I've now found four of these including a very rare WD binary ELW. Will check out this small area more thoroughly at a later date.

Although I may be saying too much about this sector- it's like a gold prospector shouting 'I've found gold in them hills' and then everyone armed with a pick is on the hunt there :LOL::LOL:

Happy Holidays from the far side of Sag A

When the game was released I was stuck in the bubble, grinding some funds for my opportunity to escape outwards. Then Horizons at the end of the following year bought me back and every year since would always return around mid December and spend the end of the year around populated space- although I'd be off on a fresh star hunt just before the New Year. A few weeks around the bubble felt too claustrophobic for an explorer!

But with the arrival of Odyssey in a few months time I have decided to delay my return till Q1 release date and leave my stocking and Christmas Lavian Brandy 🍷until then.

Still checking out the EOK BLUAE sector for the WD unicorn. It has an incomplete WD field there- it is in the same galactic location as the EOS CHREA sector, checked earlier in the year only below the galactic plane, measuring 150lyrs by 1280lyrs approx. Makes it easier to check out and using the lawnmower method of exploring it-all the way up, then slightly across, then down again! :D
Lawnmower.png

And after finding four ELW systems within 100 jumps have since found......none!

Close to completing a basic check of sector-only a few travels up and down with the lawnmower and then will check out more thoroughly the ELW heavy part of the sector.

Nothing of major note found since last post but did find a CJ Carbon Star. I have come across a few on the tour but this is the first found in the Galactic Centre . Good to fill another blank in the Codex but considering how long I have been around the centre this year did take a while to come across one.

Like all the CJ Stars I have found this when I came across a yellow blob while plotting a route and because of their rarity, would suspect most of these are found the same way. Would like to know if anyone has found one by simply plotting a route, jumping and stumbling upon a CJ Star find?

I have my name on nearly 200 CJ stars now, but my very first one, the one that spurred my interest in finding them specifically, I did indeed randomly stumble across. CJ stars tend to be in or near clusters of CN stars, so if you find a few CN stars close together, there is a good chance there is a CJ somewhere near by

In fact, my carrier, IGAU Orville, is parked around one right now as I am surveying perhaps the largest cluster of CN and CJ stars yet found. Over 400 CN and over 50 CJ stars in a 1000x1000 ly column...so far.
