If ED fails to support oculus is it Star Citizen for everyone?

So YOU only read threads that pertain to a limited subject?

Yes if I am in a discussion group relating to a specific subject, namely- VR- here.
This is a ELite dangerous VR discussion group trying to advance and help each other for successful playing in VR, not a "VR vs flat montor" discussion group! Why would someone come here if they are not interested in VR?

It looks like star citizen is becoming like a Space Crisis. Heavy load for GPU and I don't know if it's because in Alphaearlywhatever but it would require a beast of e machine.

I will go for Eve Valkyrie and have some fun there, but if "SlowTacticalFPS" will appear, I might camper in that genre.

Elite is enjoyable also without VR, I'm thinking of taking of dust from my Home system, big inch tv and go through stars.

Lets put the discussion about no Oculus in ED to rest for good.

Let's be clear, this only means that any potential Rift support won't be affected by any exclusivity deal with Steam.

It's still possible (though perhaps unlikely) that they will look at the v1.0 Rift SDK and find it impossible to implement for a technical reason. That possibility is why they haven't come out and said "we will have v1.0 support".

At this point, with Oculus pre-orders already back to something like a July delivery slot, I suspect I'll still be using my DK2 this time next year. (And the Rift or Vive will have to be significantly better than the DK2 to warrant the upgrade - I enjoy flying with the DK2 as it is and I'm pretty satisfied with it, and the experience difference between the DK2 and Rift CV1 or Vive will have to be like night and day to be worth an upgrade).

When I do get to try out one of the release version HMDs, I'm not wedded in any way to buying a particular make - if the Rift is the one I like best, I'll get that, if the Vive is the one I like the best, I'll get that. By the time they are easily available and I've been able to try one out, I strongly suspect the "OMG Frontier is going to support SteamVR first!" clickbait articles will feel like ancient history.

However, I doubt I'll ever play Star Citizen. What really does it for me with Elite is that we have a plausible galaxy to fly in. I see stars I can see in my back yard with a good pair of binoculars. My CMDR is also fully rooted in the Elite universe. Star Citizen won't have this, so even if it's the World's Best Game Ever, I doubt I'll play it because it lacks that particular killer feature, I suspect I'd go back to playing E : D on a monitor before playing SC. It's not because I think SC will be terrible, it's just without a plausible galaxy it's just not the space game for me.

Ahahaha. SC in consumer VR. Nice one. How many of us can run optimised, actual-game, ED in VR at 90fps with supersampling stably and at decent quality settings?

When SC works, works in VR, is a game and runs nicely on my pc in the ultra settings I'm used to in ED, I very much look forward to giving it a go. I'm thinking by that stage we'll be on ED 5.0 merrily landing on earth like planets and exploring cities with support for all HMDs long since implemented. :)

No way am I jumping ship. Any idea how scary it is outside your cockpit?

I will use any VR headset that gives the best experience with Elite. If no VR headset gives a good experience, I will probably attempt to contact David Braben to give him a piece of my mind unless I have reason to believe all the VR products are inferior or broken.

I'd guess ED 4.0 with Earth-likes but no cities. :)

The whole concept of Cloud Imperium Games financing forced me to walk away as far as i could from Star Citizen. Elite is my space game of choice. However, i ordered the Rift and i will be "pretty upset" (enter all kind of ugly words there), if they fail or decide against implementing Oculus Rift support. Its a brand new and ambitious tech... it should be embraced by all ambitious software developers.

One thing is clear for me. I built a computer exclusively for VR, i ordered a VR Headset and i will play mostly VR from the time, my Rift arrives. Elite will have a very hard time staying on my system, if they dont support the Rift. I´d rather invest more time in Project CARS or one of the other upcoming VR games. And i am sure, i will get my space vacation sooner or later, be it Elite or not. It just would be... very sad - i really love the game.

David Braben tweeted today that FD "not" supporting Oculus is flat out incorrect and folks should check their facts. FD supported it from Alpha and they have been waiting on stable release SDK to invest more time into it. I think they realize this is a key selling point and the future for a lot of gamers, not least because every show they attend they have HMDs for demo.

I already own Star Citizen and ED is going to support the Rift, they've said it I don't even know how many times that they will. They've just been waiting for SDK 1.0 before they commit. Everyone needs to calm down about it, sheesh.

Odd thing is though, is it is not even listed on the website. I think it used to be, but right now, only VR label shown at the bottom of their page is Steam VR and HTC Vive. Oculus oddly excluded. That tells me they aren't 100% certain. I mean, people are going to be getting their CV1's in March if i'm not mistaken(first shipment).

No, no Star Citizen. I backed it and have tried it, hate it. Its Elite Horizons for me Star Citizen very boring at least in its present state of Alpha. Lets face it FD on DK2 has been a very sweet ride I hope continues as I plan to ride it out with the DK2 until it simply does not function anymore then on to better things.

The only thing that worries me is that FDEV should now have a stable SDK to develop on as Oculus provided SDK 1.0 to developers.... I can only make one of two assumptions from that, FDEV did not request it or Oculus has not provided it. Either way they should in theory have access to a stable SDK at this point in time.

Its about time we had some real news about future Oculus support and I really hope they are not pinning their hopes on some sort of SteamVR implementation that will "work" with Oculus devices, as that in my eyes will not be good enough.

I am committed to playing ED for the next ten years at least, regardless.

Looking forward to playing it on the Vive as well. Preorders in just five weeks! It's going to seem like a very long three months for delivery...
