Yea, explorers need more options beyond Asp and Anaconda (which looks like an awesome mini Star Destroyer and not a cheese wedge, thank you very much). AFMU is useful but not critical if you're careful. I did the last 70-80,000 ly without taking any damage whatsoever. It's handy to have, sure, especially if your canopy cracks, but it's definitely possible to go on long range trips without one - you just need to be more careful if you do.
my first exploration was in an asp explorer full of AFMU and no SRV because im on XBOX, i guess iv gotten lazy with my exploration, often making a cup of tea while heading to that distant earth world, getting close to stars while scooping, because lets face it i can repair it im less careful
im just considering options and i have spent over 4 months in an asp before and as much as i love it i want to take a DBx so im out testing the waters a little prior to horizons and SRV's on a mini voyage
and as much as the anaconda looks like a mini star destroyer and not a block of Wensleydale cheese its not my cup of tea
