If it can happen to me, it can happen to you.

Been there, done that.

Fortunately, I got "stuck" in a populated backwater system and managed to refuel and buy a poxy 3E fuel-scoop which made the rest of my journey tortuously slow-going - something which ensured I learned my lesson.

Urgh, that must have been painful...likely a better lesson that having to call for assistance lol.

By the way, is calling the Fuel Rats something that can be done in-game, or is it something one does outside of the game? I guess if you have one in your friends list it's all in-game, but I was wondering how it works if not.

Haha, happened to me once, just a few jumps away from Sol. I knew I had to fuel scoop in the next system. Pure muscle memory took over and I forgot to scoop and jumped instead. Yes, I had a fuel scoop, just forgot to use it. Felt like a doofus as I called the fuel rats.

It happened to me once. I forgot to fit my fuel scoop as well. But I didn't call the fuel rats.

I logged on one of my alts and fitted for a fuel rat mission, then went and met me. I told me not to forget the fuel scoop again. Me thanked I and we went about my separate business.

I think some vodka may be involved here also.:D

Nope, If I run out, I eat a rebuy. It's my own fault. I'm not getting on the line to receive a lecture about fuel scoops and route plotting this late in the game.

It happens sure, but I've never been one for making people mop up my mess.

Yeah, the lecture was kind of annoying, lol. Still appreciated the rescue though.

The fuel rats website is all very proper now, like calling the AA.
Go to https://fuelrats.com/ and there's a text-chat doodad where they log your call, allocate somebody to help you and offer advice about how to stay alive until they arrive. [up]

I have a couple in my friend list but I wouldn't call them directly.
Probably better to go through the "official channels".

Cool, thanks for the link. I'd not realised how far the role-play had gone. Thankfully I've not needed them so far, but I can see it happening one day when I'm doing one of my "really should go to bed, but one more jump" type evenings.

I've not read the site yet...erm, it's a little later (earlier?) than I realised...but I assume we pay them for their services somehow? I.e. drop some unflagged cargo for example for them to legitimately scoop up.

Jum... <<INSUFFICIENT FUEL>>
My fuel scoop was 170 LY behind me at the CG station, and the nearest inhabited system was 79 LY ahead.

Just google "fuel rats".

Funny read, cool story +1Rep.

As I am flying in RL, I can tell you: routine is killing the most experienced pilots, that’s what checklists are for...[big grin]

Economical route can save you in these scenarios, just FYI. You'd be amazed how far you can jump when it's 5LY or less at a time.

Z...

I can't count the number of times I've tried to scoop only to realize...oops forgot the scoop!

Fortunately, I've spent almost all of my time inside the bubble, and have always found a station to refuel at. When exploring, at least, I've managed to remember the fuel scoop so far :)

And? Did you complete the mission?

Nope. The rats are good but they can only jump so fast. So we had the additional "complication" of them refueling a ship that had failed a cargo delivery and therefore had technically "stolen" cargo on board in an area where there was station security flying around.

Fortunately I had logged out to conserve remlok-juice while a rat made their way to my location and when they notified me on IRC that they were on-site and I logged back in, the relog had fortunately put me outside the NFZ and not quite so vulnerable to getting scanned and attacked by the plod as I would have been drifting helplessly across their patrol patterns. They fueled me up enough that I could jump out to a neighboring system, scoop to cap and then slink off to a nearby anarchy to lose the hot cargo.
