I don't want to go off-topic but I actually find this quite troubling... I say the following having only upgraded to an Xbox One last year.
Console generations have always been about 8-10 years.
That's simply untrue.
NES-SNES: 6 years
SNES-N64: 5 years
PS1-PS2: 5 years
PS2-PS3: 6 years
Xbox (original)-Xbox 360: 4 years
That's an average of just over 5 years between consoles. This last console cycle (at 8 years) just happened to be painfully long.
I really don't get what all the whinging is about. Nvidia releases the specs for the 1080 (priced at $600) and people are excited about it. There are rumors Microsoft will be releasing a console 4 times more powerful than Xbox One, likely priced in the $500 range, and people are despairing that their 4 year old console will be out of date and threaten to migrate to PC. Really? How do you think the guys that just dropped $1000 on a Titan X were feeling when they found out Nvidia is releasing a card with the same performance for less than half the price? If that's the world you want to live in, fine, but don't think you'll be any better off or spend less money to stay current on a PC than you would with a console.
