If you are having problems with your HOTAS One

Some commanders are having issues with their T.Flight HOTAS one from Thrustmaster crashing Elite. Other games seem to work fine, however as soon as you boot elite, crash or reset of console. We've worked with Thrustmaster competition winnder LT EvilDead and our PBSF Avalon Chapter to bring this workaround, to get you back in the pilots seat, with HOTAS enabled

I'm in the Xbox Insider Preview Programme (in the Alpha ring), and my HOTAS worked fine for ED when I set it up last night. My console updated yesterday with Alpha build 1710.171008-1804, and there's apparently been another one since then (1710.171009-1720).

Which update ring are those with problems in, and which OS build?

Wait so I’d have to quit being an insider to use this?

I might need to cancel now. Is this confirmed by Xbox support?

no, it seems quite the opposite actually. Some error for those who ARE in the program, but as Tezcat metioned, it doesn't affect all of them.

thrustmaster and Frontier are both working with Microsoft to get a permanent fix out for it but atm if you DO have problems this will most likely fix your issue.

[EDIT] quite the opposite in that for some people actually being DEEPER in the insider program seems to have helped)

N.B. that all parties are working on a fix and this should not be premature.

No offense but this is more unclear than the first post.

Im an alpha insider in the US. I’ll get the HOTAS One some time on or after 10/12 per Amazon, so maybe I’ll come back and comment if I Run into any issues. Joining and leaving the program for the older update seems odd but again....I’m in the alpha not the later groups. The insider updates are crashing Elite Dangerous, Xbox party chat among other things without any HOTAs One so... ???

Im just trying to draw an understanding why or how the T.flight HOTAS One was confirmed as an issue....or is this just a theory as it’s no different than my usb camera I’m testing

its not seen as a controller

If you do run into issues, the above will get it working again

Currently some users are having issues with their systems crashing. To get the error you have to be

1 - In the insider program (not sure what levels are or are not affected there)
2 - Have a HOTAS attached to your Xbox
3 - Load up Elite

As mentioned all three companies are working together to ensure that this is fixed as fast as possible. They would know more of the ins and outs of the issue and where they are with testing but at this point, we have a workaround and will be getting out of their hair to let them work on it and get a fix for everybody asap.

It is not seen as a controller and does not show up in the list of connected devices, you are correct..

Are you for certain it’s a problem with the HOTAS One?

If you don't have the HOTAS plugged in there's no issue
If you are not playing Elite Dangerous, there's no issue
If you are not a part of the insider program, there's no issue.

All three have to be the case for there to be an issue (that we know so far). If you plug your HOTAS in and you do face the same issue, then of course you could plug in a camera and give it a try. You could plug in a camera and give it a try anyway, and if it causes a crash that would likely be very good information to get over to Thrustmaster. Sadly though if it doesn't crash with the camera that doesn't necessarily mean that it wouldn't if you were another level of insider.

It's an issue which the three teams above will need to keep working on together. We just have a fix which will let people play with their HOTAS on Elite Dangerous (if they have an issue with it currently)

Thrustmaster and Frontier are already working with the detail we've given them and advising users to follow the above.

huh that's super odd. Glad you could see it now but thanks for the heads up.

So the issue persists using a Logitech usb camera and started a few alpha updates back in September after the Elite Dangerous 2.4 update....using an Xbox one s with the Logitech usb camera plugged in, Elite Dangerous and the party chat crashed

this was confirmed in the insider forums over a week ago and also relates to other games...specifically Elder Scrolls Online and Elite Dangerous. This is why I’m asking if you all are certain or if it’s just a theory.

The xox insider team has updated one build and it caused less game crashing but didn’t resolve the party chat issues.
The most recent build is to resolve the party chat issues. That is as of 10/11/17 update or 10/10 depending on your time zone.

Im just trying to clarify because it’s worth $79.99 to me.
If those reporting issues aren’t in the alpha insider roll out then they are on the older insider update that I’m refering to back at the 2.4 release but that release was an issue non specific to the HOTAs One. There is an alpha and beta insider update out now

so is it for certain just the HOTAs one with the most recent alpha update?
is it for certain the HOTAs one with the most recent beta insider update?

those details are very important to your OP

TBH, they're not that important as the OP is just telling people how to play if they already DO have the issue. If they don't have the issue then it's a gamble. Obvs we don't have time to test every peripheral with every state of insider program and release levels. Those are things that mSoft, fDev and Thrustmaster need to work on (and are working on).

this post is just here to help those who ARE experiencing the issue, to let them know a way around this while waiting for a permanent fix for the big three :)

Context:
This post doesn’t help....if you opt out of the insider program, you’re out and loose the group progress you’ve made.
More important, based on our insider forum discussions and private insider chat, it a usb periferial issue not the HOTAS One, but I myself don’t have it yet so it is very important to insiders to know if in fact the issue was confirmed for the HOTAS One or if this is just a theory.

Being in the insider groups, we all accept that each build may cause problems with existing and new accessories, software and games. We also in the alpha group tend to accept it’s our responsibility to test, report and provide feedback as this issue involves a specific quiz and feedback item as well as the party chat known issues.

When a post is made from you all, it’s often seen as a best practice because PixelBandits is a reputable and trustworthy source for reviews. As such, it comes with the obligation to further clarify when ambiguity or a lack of clarity exists. It’s important to understand this posts builds on existing insider discussions and part of the Xbox team figuring out solutions requires that we insiders send digital feedback from our consoles. This reads that possibly as a result of sent in feedback, this was suggested but lacks clarity of If in fact it was submitted and the Xbox insider support gave this suggestion or if it’s just a theory from non insider specific interactions.

Thats all im seeking...it would be of benefit if the OP was more precise to say it wasn’t confirmed but if you don’t mind leaving the insider program, it’s an option.

Its drfinately not a work around for insiders tho.

I would disagree. This post does help people if they want a workaround and want to instantly use their HOTAS. It IS confirmed that if you leave the insider program it will start working and you'll then be able to use your HOTAS.

Of course if the insider program is really important to you, then yes, don't leave, just wait for the issue to be fixed and assist where you can with troubleshooting. Whether this will be sooner or later, nobody can really say.

♂️Im not sure that suggesting for insiders to leave the program is a work around at all.

IF in fact there’s an issue with the T.flight HOTAS One staying in the program to send feedback is the best approach. Suggesting to others to leave encourages people not to send in the console feedback data reports that help the Xbox team resolve issues.
Long term that means if there is an issue, it goes live to everyone vs being resolved in the preview for insiders. Further it doesn’t give Thrustmaster insight on if there’s a problem with their latest firmware or if it’s just Xbox.

As an insider for almost 4 years, It’s the whole point of being an insider... to send feedback when issues arise so they can confirm if in fact it’s the T.Flight HOTAS One or just usb Non controller items.

To me the OP should read, ”if you’re having problems with the T.Flight HOTAS One and are an insider, depending on the build you’re running you may have issues. This doesn’t seem to be an issue for non-insiders.”

That messages allows the the reader to comprehend their options vs making unconfirmed statements. You almost cost Thrustmaster a customer as I was about to cancel my pre order.

I completely agree, if your aim is to better the insider program then yes staying in and troubleshooting is probably what you want to do. In the case of wanting to get a working HOTAS straight away, there's the method in the OP which is currently being shared by both Thrustmaster and Frontier. Differing opinions on this one I think, which is awesome, but seems a rather circular discussion we're having here. fly Safe CMDR O7
