If you could change/add One thing about/to exploration...

Stuff - and what I'm on about is "other" stuff than we have seen already (i.e. wrecks of known ships) , but odd stuff, stuff that can't be identified, stuff that makes you wonder (Strange formations on planets, abandoned bases, stations, caves ) , stuff that you see in distance but disappears, stuff (mats for instance) that is only found out in the wide black yonder. Load of stuff - not tea loads but just enough.

Maybe the occasional fossil, or vaguely recognisable ruin of a long, lost civilisation or structure, still barely visible in shifting sands. Anything that sparks imagination. That'd be cool.

A Galmap filter option - explored/known/unknown

Explored - You've been there and sold data to UC

Known - Somebody else has been there and sold the data to UC

Unknown - UC have no data

This by a long way. Also, your wording made me think of that well known (Donald Rumsfeld?) speech. You know, the one about the known knowns, unknown knowns, known unknowns and unknown unknowns.

I would have the filters changed in the galaxy map. Right now if you find a system that has a B class star and a BH in it and go to the filter and deselect B stars (yet still have BH selected), you no longer see the system at all on the map. I want it changed so that the system would stay on the map because you still have BH selected and it is in the system.

Is that clear? Sounded clear in my head, but I'm super tired as I write this! lol

Select * where Startype <> 'B'

They're probably using a wildcard and have % in their query string. That's if it was transact or DB2 or something. No idea what's this thing's running om the back of.

Universal Cartography which is actually working across the server. You know, like when the player discovers a new system, it becomes explored and anyone can buy the data and take a look at it.

Detailed surface scanners that revealed.... details on the surface.

I'm not being entirely facetious here... I'd like it so that they could show concentrations of materials that you then land on and prospect properly rather than randomly hoping for stuff.

Forget about my contribution of a captain's log. We need this. Especially now it seems the rare materials are going to be even rarer than before.

The thing is: it could still be procedurally generated for the planet and just show concentrations of each material available. You'd still have to go down and collect the stuff, the DSS just shows where to go... it could take longer for the increased detail to become available.

Clearly, the solution is to reverse the polarity of the neutrino flow by re-calibrating the Heisenberg compensators. Do I have to think of everything? :D

^^^This, oh, so very much this :D

If I take the Devs word for it, at the moment there are rules in place where certain materials are likely to be found. "Just" translate that likeliness into a colour scheme you put as a layer over the planet map.

And I put just between "'s because it's probably more complicated than I'm thinking :)

This didn't seem like so big of a problem when I tried the latest beta build. Material categories are back where they were, and it only took me around 15 minutes to find a material in the Rare category. Hardly scientific, but it seems to me that FDev have properly addressed concerns over material changes in the earlier beta builds.

None of this makes Traveller's suggestion any less excellent, of course.

It would be nice if a buff like this to the DSS also provided a skin for the planetary map.

And while we're wishing, I'd like to wish for the ability to then place a waypoint on the surface.

Make it in some way interesting.
Reducing the scan times down from the silly 20+ seconds it often takes for each object of the 39+ objects you just discovered in the system would be great help.

Aside from what has already been mentioned here, what would I like to see? Persistent scarring of planetary surfaces via mining lasers.
So much player-generated content!
