If it were possible to change the paint colour I'd be tempted to go for jet black.
Partly in homage to Lord Vetinari but mostly so that when running cold I'd also be that much harder for the Mk1 eyeball to spot.
Changing colours should be ok as Frontier can just let you select pre-defined colours.Be nice if we got to change color and decals. But with how tight they are about using profanity or even initals for profanity... would become a big hassle.

This is one of my pet peeves in Oolite. A lot of ship modders will create black ships with tiny profiles. As a human I actually need to see and aim, the AI doesn't have that problem. I'd suggest infrared/UV vision be standard issue in cockpits.
I think after all the ribbing about having ships shaped like blocks of cheese, it would have to be an all-over yellow circles paint job for me. Something like this but cobra-shaped.
