If you thought the IGN review was bad

Wait till you see the game informer review.

While not as bad as the IGN review it still left me shaking my head and disgusted. Did the reviewer even know what kind of game he was reviewing? It reminds me of the IGN review in that the reviewer seems to criticize the game for things that would be common in a management sim. Do these big review sites just try and bring down the game with these terrible reviews? I don't get it. But I guess at least he gave it a 7 and not 4.8 like the IGN clown.

I wonder what their review score was for GTA 5? I bet Game Informer gave it a pretty high score, probably an 8 or 9 at the most if not outright 10/10. A game with a short single player story mode, it was good but too short. The single player was really just an extended tutorial for the multiplayer. Which is a horrible pay 2 win grind fest. I am sure Game Informer thought GTA 5 was GOTY material though. Clowns.

Seems pretty fair tbh, in line with some fairly common criticisms, nothing new or surprising here.

Sorry but I could not disagree more. A 7/10 is a wonderful rating to receive. While I don't agree with timers instantly being boring or mobile like, I do believe the game is lacking somewhat like so many others. This review puts that across. I kind of wish they made it more clear that the reasons the times are a problem is due to finding things to do while they pass, that is not normal busy work. Not the timers themselves, because it comes across like a misunderstanding of what a management sim can involve.

Reviewers are free to rate a game however they like, and as long as they are at least 'trying' to be objective and treat the games fairly, there should be no problem with that. Don't let your love of the game cloud the idea that other people have opinions.

Also GTAV has nothing to do with this game and has no need being brought up. No need to bring something else down to shield from criticism.

Is that what they're going on about too? Have these people never heard of FarmVille – my wife used to play that for a bit, but thankfully we got it sorted.

Honestly, if people are sitting around waiting for timers they either haven't really bothered playing the game much or aren't trying to play the game well. You'd never get anything done if that's all you did. It's a sandbox game. Build stuff, mess with dinos, drive around, whatever; don't sit around waiting for timers, for goodness sake.

Sorry but I can't take people seriously who try and compare this to a mobile pay to win game. It's ridiculous. For all the faults this game has, timers is not one of them and totally missing the forest for the trees. Hell, even Age of Empires had the same sort of timers in it, and you don't see people sitting around waiting for them either, because it'd be stupid. [downcast]

Yeah , its mobiles fault. They abused the timers to worsen the game if unpaid to force those who enjoy them to pay more than the game would have been if prepaid. Now when people see timers they instantly think its just filler, ruining it or something worse. I'm not surprised, when you get burned and mistreated as much as you see in that industry now, its hardly surprising that people think negatively. But really timers have been used for all sorts of games since the beginning and is integral to this sort of game.

As I said, I personally would want to see more to this game as I worry it's a bit thin. But the timers seem right. After all, a new dinosaur and at a high viability is something to work towards. If everything was instant you would have no time to even manage anything.

Timers have been in certain games long before pay2win mobile gaming. There really is no excuse for someone working as a professional video game reviewer to be whining about timers in a non mobile pay2win game. Also if you sit around and wait for the timers you are an idiot. The game gives you plenty to do while the timers progress.

I get that you are JWE biggest fanboy (or girl), but the reviews are accurate. I think IGN's review is spot on. I think everyone wanted this game to be so good, but it just isn't and large percentage of the gaming population agree.

I wouldn't compare impressive games like GTA5 with JWE, it isn't going to help your cause. JWE is averaging around 50-65% positive reaction for reviews. GTA 5 was averaging about 99%. Apples and oranges.

I thought it was a fairly objective review. Granted, I'm enjoying the game more than the reviewer did, but he did raise some good points. Even so, I think the game's pros far, far outnumber and outweigh the cons.

If you think GTA 5 was impressive then no wonder you dislike this game. You are the kind of person the majority of game developers make games for and the reviewers target. The lowest common denominator. GTA 5 is garbage compared to this game. Like I said the story mode was too short and it was just one big tutorial for that garbage online mode that's in the game. It's not about being a fanboy. I never went into the game with some crazy unrealistic expectations. A lot of people did. I don't really care what the reviews say. Cause like I said they give games like GTA 5 great scores. This game has gotten plenty of good review scores. Just look at the steam reviews. People love the game. Look at the JWE sub reddit.

The only people not happy are a small group of whiners and professional complainers who go around whining about the same issues and spamming stupid threads about these issues all the time.

It wasn't the worst review, like I said that goes to the IGN review and the moron who did it. But like I said this review still had me questioning what the heck was going on with this guy. Doing a review for a management sim and complaining about some fairly standard mechanics in games and especially management sims.

I don't really care what the reviews say.

so you keep jumping on threads about reviews and posting them yourself for ... sport? [haha]

incidentally, i just read one from "rock, paper, shotgun" which is quite interesting. not that i have them as an authority or anything, but i consider them to be one of the more serious and professional sites, with broad spectrum and their reviews don't fall for the obnoxious 'scoring system' but are often very insighful. like this one you could check out so you can keep not really caring about it. you're welcome.

It's not about being a fanboy.

RPS is a pretty good source IMHO. However, there are a few points of criticism often made about JWE in general that aren't true. For example, I've heard a lot about 'you only have one single fastfood building, whereas [game X] has one for soda, milkshakes and beer!'. Turns out that this isn't true; each 'commercial building' comes in three flavors, which you set in the building's commercial tab. Guests want a wide variety of stuff (with clothing store, gift store, fast food, restaurant, bowling alley) and you end up with 15 different services. Placement matters, space is limited and there is a limit to number of customers that can be served (depending on how much staff you place in each individual building) so it becomes quite a puzzle.

Another thing is that I've seen complaints that only the park gets a general 'infamy' rating. Turns out this isnt true: its the sum of the individual dino's infamy, which you can see in one of the detail-tabs of each dino. So you can breed a T-rex and either feed it other dinos or even let it escape intentionally. Having it eat a few guests is bad on the short term, but it gets you a notorious T-rex everyone wants to see. You then of course have to decide if you want your entire park's infamy rating to be based on one, very mortal, dinosaur. :D

I currently have 19 hours in and slowly details and depth are emerging I hadnt spotted earlier. There is a lot of room for fun and creative experimenting, and there are very nifty risk&reward mechanics. To me it seems the reviews, both the positive and negative, didnt really explore this game all that much but rather just followed the path mission-by-mission. Some like it and give it a good rating, some dont and give it a bad rating, but I havent seen a single review that actually discussed the details and depth at all.

that sounds fun and has even a creepy level of 'depth' to it, yes :D

thanks for the input!

Yes, I am sure GTAV,the biggest selling and most expensive to make game that made its money back in the first day before it even had an online component, is terrible...

Please stop bringing up off topic games, there is no relation.

7/10 is about right. They’ve done a lot of incredible work and then undermined a great deal of it with some very strange design decisions.

The ingredients are all there for a great game, now they just need to spend some time putting them together.

why do people keep mentioning mobile games when they review this game? is it because of the cooldowns and timers? those have been common in PC games since forever, they're called time sinks and have never been unique to mobile games
