IGN give 4.8/10

Lets hope Frontier has a long list of improvements ready.

Edit:

that being said, the reviewer has completely misunderstood what a park management game is. Guess Frontier werent interested in paying him for a better opinion. (ratings over 7 requires a wealthy cost in the ign page ya know)

Tbf the reviewer comes across as a fps fan, the sort who will give any Battlefield 8/10 because he can shoot something.

The review seems harsh to me, and I say that as someone who has been critical of what we've seen.

I'm really disappointed about the sandbox mode. I'm a creative person and don't like career/challenge type modes in games, I tend to go straight for the sandbox. Pretty upset to hear I have to spend days or possibly weeks playing a gamemode that I don't want to play in order to reach sandbox mode with everything unlocked. I paid a lot for this game - I think it's unfair I have to work toward getting everything unlocked.

He said that unlocking dinosaurs and making the parks across the different isles were boring. Why did this guy review the game then? If you are not interested then ofcourse you will rate the game badly.

Just more evidence of crooked game reviewers thinking they know everything.

IMHO it's better to play the game, experience it for yourself and make up your own mind. Far too often I read a review: "like, omg, you can't play this game for more than 3.5 seconds before becoming painfully bored!" yet I sit on 100+ hours without so much as a yawn. It's for this reason I stopped following paid reviewer scores a very long time ago.

IGN is just heavily influenced by big game publishers like Activision and EA games, thats why Call of duty and battlefield always get these high ratings while sometimes these games are literately crap.

Sorry Dinosaur... but that is nearly the essence of a game. Doing something to achieve something...
In sandbox mode you are still achieving something. Take Minecraft creative mode for example - nothing to unlock, everything is unlocked for you, but when you are building something, you are working towards getting that build completed. When you are done and happy with your build, you have achieved something. Zoo Tycoon 2 is another example - not very many people play the challenge mode. The free mode has everything unlocked and unlimited money, yet you still have a goal - you want to build the nicest looking park possible and get that five star rating from your guests.

Forcing your playerbase to play the campaign before they can play the sandbox with everything unlocked is a bit of a rubbish move. Sandbox should be just that; everything unlocked with no monetary constraints; they did it in Planet Coaster, so.. why not here?

Exactly.

The problem here is that in Minecraft you have, literally, infinite possibilities, even in Zoo Tycoon 2 you had a lot of possibilities (Not as much as minecraft) because the decorations and the terraforming.

Of course the review is harsh but the points of concern are none the less true. 5 Islands which look the same except for time of day and you're litteraly doing the same thing over and over again to gain the stars. Park building is quite shallow since there aren't much buildings. I guess as a fan of the franchise you would give 6-7/10 at this point.

Well that's unfortunate. I can't recall such low score for any recent game, especially with such hype. Something must have gone wrong. Still, waiting for better reviewers verdict.

.

IGn is pretty trash these days anyway.

He only has a point regarding:
Islands might be too small.
No flying/aqua (tho i bet its a dlc. Hell better be).

Plenty of room for improvement for sure but hell a 4,8 out of 10 ? Tipical ign retardness right there. I'd think i go for a 7 of 10 myself.

Points being: aqua/flying creatures / no mod support yet / sandbox needs improving, 3 points to improve on

The islands being the 'same thing' doesn't mean the challenges are the same, I think there is a clear misunderstanding about the different constrains of each island. It will change player's play style just because of the different conditions. Could argue about being 'same mechanics', but not about being the same thing.

Yes you right, plus they should make an option to choose between normal sandbox and creative sandbox, I actually don't want to have unlimited funds.

It peeked my interest when watching the streams & videos on youtube.

I'm frankly not interested in what some 2 bit games mag correspondent has to report about any game in their ultra-biased way.

I'll make my own mind up thanks!
