IGN give 4.8/10

When reading a review, you don't have to see the score, you have the center your attention on the review itself, the good and bad points, because the score it's totally subjective, but the points analyzed usually aren't.

There wasn't anything mentioned that i didn't already know about or was shocked to read about. It didn't sound like any features were broken or performance was bad, seems like he just didn't like it which is fine as thats his opinion. Sure it would have been great to read how there was something amazing that we didn't know about.

Anyway i will form my own opinion in an hour or so.

Forcing your playerbase to play the campaign before they can play the sandbox with everything unlocked is a bit of a rubbish move. Sandbox should be just that; everything unlocked with no monetary constraints; they did it in Planet Coaster, so.. why not here?

Sandbox unlocks when you get the first island to 4 stars I think - pretty early.

As for all the 'sandbox with limited funds posts' - as others have said, that's more of a 'challenge' mode. But hopefully they will do that - would be especially nice if you could set up challenges to share with others "Build a park using only A,C and C dinos and get to 4 stars w/o using X' etc.

What i'd like to know is why did IGN give such a harsh score to this game? IGN has been working with Frontier for the last months bringing us diaries etc so they were heavily involved in the marketing. Did someone step on the toes of IGN or something because this just seems way off.

For the people who just wanted to play sandbox mode it is kind of sad that they have to unlock everything first. For me however I don't really mind that since I want to go through the whole set of islands before I even consider going to Isla Nublar.

But the reason building is so dull is that most of the maps are tightly constrained, so there’s not much room for creativity.

I dunno hey, the fact that it's tightly constrained actually tells me players need to be creative in their building placement. I guess that's just how I approach it though.

Seems the reviewer needs a large flat plot of land on which to build to flex their "creativity."

I'm not a fan of IGN reviews, and yeah that's mainly because CoD, BF and Fifa always get 9/10 or higher - which for me has nearly always felt undeserved - while a lot of other games that in my opinion deserve higher scores often get shunted but honestly reading that review it sounds like it was written by someone who doesn't enjoy sim type games and probably hasn't followed any of FDs press releases or discussions on the game

Take for instance his line about recreating JW using flying and aquatic dinosaurs - that's an old record, we've known for months that they aren't included currently and FD have said it's because they want to focus on getting the land dwellers right. He also seems to not want to spend a lot of time in game unlocking stuff. He want's it all straight away without putting a fair number of hours in (it's almost like he supports that stupid Ubisoft "pay to save time in our boring open world AC Origins game because we know you don't want to play the exact same missions 50 times to level up")

I won't bash anyone who takes this review seriously and leaves the game out, and I won't fanboy defend FD from a bad review, but honestly you should be able to pick up on the tone of the article and realise that this reviewer probably isn't the best suited to reviewing this type of game so at least source other reviews before trusting this

Frontier didn't pay them enough for a good rating

The only time I want a big plot of land is to recreate Site B [big grin]

Still not okay with that since Planet Coaster had it from the on-set; no need to play anything of the challenges/campaigns.
It's the "having to play to unlock things in sandbox" that I'm not keen on.

Yeah, I agree as well. I like having a sandbox that is already available and you don't
have to play any of the campaigns and challenges in order to get it.

Agreed, sandbox should be separate from the campaign.

Mwa i disagree, i think it should be part of the campaign unlockable, however the sandbox on its own needs to be different then what it is now. It's just not extended enough for those who like to have the zoo tycoon part of it

And perhaps the ratings required per Island could be a little too high for the people who hate that type of thing in order to get to the sandbox. Even then it';s a sort of tutorial before sandbox mode, not neccaserly needs to be seperate in my opinion anyway.

What I find quite annoying is, claiming there is NO room for creativity after thinking out loud how he would play the game: "And once wikis work out which dinosaurs can co-exist, in what numbers, in a pen with the same proportions of forest and grassland, that will be no problem at all."

I think that this rate it's that bad because he had to play all the four islands in a row, and having in mind that the game lack the content to make every game unique… But that doesn't mean this way of rating it's proffessional, because it's the opposite.
