"Illegal Passsangers" on legal passengers.

So I've flown over to CEOS/SOTHIS for some feddie rank grinding and credits yet every time I pick up passanger missions I get wanted for carrying illegal passangers yet nothing about any of the missions I take says this. I check the VIP's profile to see if they are high value or wanted, I check all the mission desc, I check everything and nothing shows thay are illegal yet I still always get that little wanted thing. Which sucs because last time I tried to fly with it I got blown up the moment I left the station and put back to Maia. Any reason this is happeneing? What am I missing?

I've never done them, but there's this guide that seems to explain everything:

Look carefully at the description of the mission, it should say "passengers may be wanted in some jurisdictions" or something similar..

Once you're allied with the station owner, fly a beluga, and keep the paint at 100%. This way you're very low at the suspicion meter (there is one in the game!), and you never get scanned. I've done dozens, maybe hundreds of these missions like that over the years..

I've looked over the desc time and time again, I cannot find anything about this. It is seemingly random

Carrying illegal passengers is nothing to worry about and they don't make you wanted. Instead, you get a warning that you have illegal passengers by your fuel gauge. The missions for illegal passengers will fail if you get scanned by an NPC when carrying them, so all you have to do is not get scanned.

The NPCs will mainly try to interdict you, then scan you. In a small/medium ship, you can always beat them in the interdiction mini-game. If they can't interdict you before you arrive at the station or drop out at the beacon, they will drop out shortly after you do, then try to scan you. You can avoid the scan for long enough to land or scan the beacon by dropping a heatsink. The interdictions are not very common, but can come at any time when you're not expecting one.

The main thing when carrying anything illegal is not to hang about anywhere. Don't use the docking computer until you're right next to the pad. Never stop to think - just be purposeful in what you do and you'll never get scanned.

yeah, been doing good with heatsinks + silent running. Running a type 9 so docking through the mail slot is scary without the computer :p

Oh I found it, next to the "pick cabin" button there is a little book that I thought to you to the codex entry for passanger missions. Turns out the illegal or not thing is hidden in there

How's that?
Most VIPs don't want to be scanned, some want to pick up 'interesting' commodities "on the way" some like to sit in the middle of combat zones. Remaining a blank patch of nothing for anyone to notice while all this is going on is very useful.
Of course you also want to have strong enough shields to take a few stray rounds in the middle of said CZ as hull damage also results in complaints or mission failure.

Done hundreds of these missions over the years and never been scanned once.
I fly in a Python btw, no guns, no shields with just the engine and fsd engineered and a few heatsinks.
Don't get hang about and don't get scanned.

Those things only slow you down, make you lose money, get you into trouble and make you frustrated. It's best to ignore any incoming messages when carrying passengers. In fact I've never seen any message that changes any mission for the better, so I always ignore all messages.

When doing rescue missions, you get messages offering a bonus if you get the passengers to safety within a time, but if you stop to read the message, you can't make the time.

The technique for docking/leaving a port is the same whether you’re smuggling illegal goods or wanted passengers…
leave a station at full boost - if there’s a scan reported, drop a heatsink immediately and boost again.
As mentioned, don’t hang about at tourist beacons…
When you need to dock (space stations) drop out of super cruise as normal, then fly 10km away, circle until you’re able to see the slot, aim for the slot at full speed, 8km away drop a heatsink, request docking, then enter the slot at about 200kph. Once inside, kill the engines and let auto dock land you.
Its fine in small ships, but can be a challenge in a Cutter,

Hint; it's not always about the money.
Always something new to see, and if I didn't want to deal with customer requests why would I bother with VIP missions at all?

When boosting in, no need to drop a heatsink unless you mess up, and only then if you get the scan detected message.

In case you don't know, you can drop out directly in front of the slot, which not only saves time, but gives you a safe entry through the slot before the police even start their patrol. The police spawn down the side of the station, then fly to the front and start scanning. You can be in before they start.

Approach the station with its orbit line vertical and the planet on the right. At the time of dropout, the station's hologram needs to be tilted 20 deg down and 20 deg to the left, so adjust your approach to get it in that position. After a bit of practice, you can get a bullseye every time. A single boost gets you directly to the slot. Even a Cutter becomes dead simple because you don't have to deal with any drift. As you land on the pad, you'll see the police breaking formation to start their scan patrol.
