I'm being bombarded with engineer invites, is this a bug?

I played for several months on the PlayStation, and then I recently moved to PC because of the devs dropping support for consoles. During those months I got an invite to three engineers, and I had to fulfill their requirements as normal.

Relatively soon after continuing to play on the PC I am now being bombarded by engineer invite after engineer invite, and what's strangest is that all the requirement tickboxes are checked, even though I have most certainly not fulfilled the requirements. For example Selene Jean requires "you fulfilled your initial contract by providing 10 units of Painite", and that tickbox is checked, even though I have never even visited that engineer, nor even the entire star system, nor have I ever even owned a single piece of "Painite" (much less delivered 10 of them anywhere). The same thing repeats over and over. For example Tod McQuinn requires 100000 credits worth of bounty vouchers. I have never cashed in or got a single bounty voucher at all. At this point I have 6 new engineers unlocked without having had to meet any of their requirements.

Is this a bug?

"Lucky you! Why complain? You are getting them for free, you should be happy!"

I don't want free gifts and unlocks because of (possible) bugs. It removes all challenge. I play the game for the challenge. If all the challenge is removed, what's the point?

My savewipe Alt gets loads of invites really early on in the game since I upgraded to EDO, OP;

I think its a deliberate thing, which I agree really detracts from the fun of the game.

It's a known bug but it seems to affect few enough players that they can't figure out why.

There's a request in that thread to send in verbose netlogs if it happens to you ... the problem of course being that no new player is going to have them enabled, and it doesn't happen to established players.

It's happened to my new alt too, not that I'm being bombarded with them but rather I've gotten access to some engineers without really doing anything...

I turned on the logging as instructed by that bug ticket linked above, but since the chain of engineer invites seems to have stopped, especially since new invites are probably triggered by leveling up at a particular engineer, it's probably unlikely that will get a new one (especially since I'm unmotivated from going to all these new engineers and leveling up). And given that people have already uploaded such logs into that bug ticket, I wonder how much benefit there actually is in me keeping the logging turned on.

Might sound a bit of a strange question, but I wonder if there would be a way to re-lock all these spuriously unlocked engineers. I suppose not, unless the devs themselves do it manually for my account. Which they are unlikely to do, I suppose.

You might be able to ask Support to do that - if it's something they have the ability to do I'm sure they'd do it (if nothing else, to get extra logs when they spontaneously unlock again)

I asked support, and they responded, and they re-locked the engineers. I got once again bombarded by spurious engineer invites and unlocks in my very next play session, so clearly the bug is easy to trigger in my case for some reason. Support responded that they will further investigate.

I'm actually positively surprised by the quick response. It's rare to see this from game developer companies.

Support response is very good with FD. You hear that basically from everyone who needs top contact them. Consistently over the years.
