I'm bored with this game. What to do?

in a normal game like ED.... the things you do and the why you do it is player based. The players create the demand and the supply for all kinds of activities and it's a self perpetuating cycle with "power play" being organic from player groups and actions. . Fdev would basically sit out most of the game and just let the players do what they will.

However, in elite dangerous, fdev hasn't given that power to players ... we can't really do anything in the game that matters. Instancing and game modes remove what little else social content creation can occur. So you're left with nothing but repetitive ...content-less activities that all basically mean nothing to the overall game.

So then you're like most other players ...you play a little here and there ...hoping that things change for the better, or hoping that another game comes out that will give you what you actually want.... not get either and go back to lurking on the forum and what not. Return for patches and updates, but ultimately be let down by them and repeat.

Or you can drink the koolaid and believe that all of this is actually your fault and everything that makes games fun is actually supposed to be in your imagination and not the responsibility of the game developers in making a cohesive game with fun mechanics and a plan for future content that they locked themselves into.

Why do you find combat "meh", OP? It takes practice and patience to learn, but with baby steps, almost everyone can fight. At first it was hella scary for me, but now it's the most fun thing in the game because the content is actual unpredictable people. No, I don't gank, but participate in organized PvP. It's hysterical to explode and watch your friends explode. Afterwards we moan how OP the rocks are. The depth of the flight model makes the lore seem like a tweet.

:)

I have about 500 hours since December. Had lots of fun but now I'm bored.

I have the ships I want. Anaconda and Corvette. The grind to get Imperial Cutter is not worth it.

No need to mine anymore, I've got enough credits.

Combat is.......meh.

Exploration would be fun if there was something to do when you get there. Driving around on a barren planet gets old after 30minutes.

So am I missing something? What else is there to do?

Ive shelved Elite 3-4 times now for breaks. Eventually I always get the craving again and come back, Ill jump into things I didn't do before and it revitalizes the game for me.

Finding a group that will do missions and support a minor faction is nice and pulled me in this time around. Gearing up to PvP and learn fa off, exploring a little, things I haven't done before.

Take a break play some other stuff next thing you know youll be back and happy to be here again.

No. I like doing the road to riches thing. Not for credits but for fun.

If you did enjoy that (c'mon admit it, you did it for the credits, hence the name) then exploration should be fun for you. It's basically the same thing but hopefully going to undiscovered places instead of those already known.

Get where? part of the fun in exploring in this game is setting out with no real goal in mind then you find something along the way. The true finds in exploration aren't the ELW's (although I always enjoy finding those) or getting the tags, it's the crazy stuff that the Stellar Forge spits out. The wacky orbits, the massive, weird rings and colorful Gas Giants among many other things. Exploration takes up a huge amount of my in game time and I never really tire of it. I know a lot of people find it boring though and I can understand why, I would still like to see more gameplay associated with exploring but I have also found a way to enjoy it the way it is but to each their own!

Also, Thargoids

When I feel a little 'off colour' with ED (there are days where I CBA) I'll go play something entirely different for a couple of days, get fed up with how shallow the games really are, then come back and attack my, still quite long, 'To-Do' list with renewed interest... I works for me, about the longest away was 4 days playing Wolfenstein Youngblood, then I got bored...

Have you tried learning to fly FA off? It is difficult at first but after some practice it becomes reflex, and at that point you realize it is fun simply to fly your ship, and ED becomes a whole new game. While I bounce around different activities, I spend most of my game time flying around planet surfaces with friends, and having a blast. Some planets have incredible canyon systems, and are very close to stations for rebuys, because yup, we do crash and burn, but we're always laughing when we do. Eagles, sideys and vipers all have low rebuy cost.

Honestly if I hadn't learned FA off and discovered 'hooning' I'd be right where you are, bored.
There are tutorial vids on youtube for learning FA off which are a big help.
Also Newton's Gambit discord, a player group that is focused on FA off flying.

I strongly disagree. Check out the posts in this thread which covers a multiplayer event that lasted several weeks:

This was superb and a testimony to the versatility of this game.

Agree with all the aboves - but if there was one thing ever to make the game complete - it would be a full multiplayer universe that players could create/add modded ships (cosmetic mods not unbalanced gameplay and avoiding the wrath of the evil Disney overlords ('sob', who wants a Star Destroyer anyway?), bases, vehicles and create various experiences, but that's a dream.

I would love to see something similar to No Man's Sky Experimental - where you can try out different loadouts and at some later date create individual bases/player bases. My imagination doesn't stretch to shipyard databases, and my patience doesn't last for engineer materials grinding. The Experimental could give me a better idea of what engineer mods I want to pursue rather than just following "those that have gone before", although without them I would be completely lost in a Sidey somewhere inside the new player bubble.
