You had a rebuy screen?
You were lucky!

When I were flyin' a Cobra, I had ta pick t' hull out t' rubbish heap...

My theory is some are inexperienced Robigo pilots who made millions in a few hours, bought ships they were incapable of flying and paid the price. Shortcuts don't always pay off long-term.

Without a doubt in many cases. How anyone can get to a Cuter/Anaconda/Corvette and not understand about correct pip management & ship loadout? - Fly Robigo for a few weeks in 2.0

hmmmm not had that yet, you must have met the new Ming the Merciless insta death gun all are talking about.

2.1 is live! Hooray!
I played the beta, and it was fine.
Now, I see videos of plasma-spamming NPC, read about CMDRs dying in seconds, missions that don't work, bounties that are next to worthless, and just an endless amount of complaining and claims that the game is broken, ruined, a bug-infested mess, etc.

As I said, I played the Beta, and I had a great spiffing time. Before that, I had a break from ED, lasting a few months.
Reading all these gripes and complaints, I'm (somewhat foolishly) afraid to log back in. I don't want to lose my DBS for no reason, but it seems dumb to not play, just because some people think the game is borked. After all, the beta was fun. I only died a few times (all of which were tense, exciting dogfights)

Is the game really as broken as "everyone" seems to say now? If I log in, am I gonna have a bad time?
I don't grind. I pootle around, doing missions, trying to do things I find relatively meaningful. Sure, some things are frustrating, but this game wasn't made for just me. I still like it.

Its the same as in beta, except apparantly a rare bug with NPC weapons. Having a blast in 2.1, just try it.

Be aware that those nice high ranked mission with the sometimes good payout can result in getting interdicted by really good NPCs. Maybe keep away from those missions until you are comfortable with the way 2.1 is.

But overall it's absolutely not as bad as it sounds here on the forum.

Oh, and those POI on planets where you kill some drones and then grab a few tons of Platinum or Gold - after a while NPCs come looking what happened and they will attack your parked ship. Just managed to dismiss my ship with 1% hull :D

That would explain the Brian Blessed roar of indignation I expelled then. :D

Just over 150 NPC encounters and nothing has killed me yet. HAd some close calls that's for sure. Have yet to run into one of the Insta-killers. NPCs are tougher on the whole. Be prepared for that.

I'm mostly the same here, though I have been killed twice... but due to careless mistakes. First I was checking out a barnacle site and noticed it had a base structure surrounding it. Was playing with the sound off and didn't notice a turret was shooting at me - Carelessness.

Second time at a nav point in a Python, I was threatened by an NCP pirate. I turned to fire, but forgot to let the scan finish first. Only took on shot, but was instantly turned on by 3 Fed condas and multiple vipers and didn't manage to escape (partially due to panicking :D) - Carelessness.

Again, a couple of close calls. Once in an Asp and once in Python I entered a "Weapons Fire Detected (threat level 1)" and was instantly set on by four enhanced small ships who took down my shields very quickly (we're talking a brief volley of a second or two). Both times I was able to escape (though with very low hull integrity in the Asp). Most threat level 1s are not this bad though, just be cautious when entering.

I have a Corvette and I have no clue how to fight in that thing. I never been to Robigo and have done a lot of normal combat in smaller ships, I know how to manage the pips and how to make a nice combat ship load out. I just don't know how to fly that thing. I need much more practice, but flying smaller ships is much more fun…

SO, no not everybody not able to fly one of the big ships in combat got it through some unheroic, easy way. The difference between an Asp, FDS or Python and a Corvette is noticeable.

OK, enough off topic.

I Hear flight assist off works wonders for non agile ships or so they say.

Ha, I have the same though as the OP. Too afraid to risk my Anaconda. Lucky Witcher 3 got a DLC and Elder Scrolls got the Dark Brotherhood, so I will spend some time in those games until stuff gets fixed in Elite.

I was bounty hunting all weekend. The only thing I was afraid of was running into that plasma accelerator rate-of-fire bug. Thankfully I didn't run into in all the hours I played.

I did have a bugged salvage mission. Nothing to be afraid of in that specific case, since the consequences of abandoning it are trivial. (no fine, just 1-2% of "Allied" status lost)

Similar to my experience on Sunday, but I was flying an Asp Exp. Instant interdiction, submitted, but was spinning anyway. Blue flash while I was spinning. Shields gone and 23% hull before I could get some semblance of control and high wake. Didn't die, but the NPC cheat gods were at it again.

Haven't seen that again since Sunday. Flying my FAS now and killing single or 2 ship NPCs with impunity. 3 ship NPC wings are a challenge though.

I would hazard a guess that this particular bug may have been hotfixed in silently and quickly as it's a gamebreaker.

With all the noise going on around the forum I would think that FD would post a message about it in foot high letters if they fixed it.

Be afraid! Be very afraid!

Fear is good.
Fear will keep you alive.
Complacency will get you dead! :D

But to be fair - it's not half as bad as some are making out.
Trading still works! :)

Fear is the mind killer don'cha know?

@OP, 2.1 is fine outside of a few fringe bugs. Jump in, have fun.

Most stuff works fine for me...

Mining :
- apart from dropping to 17-20fps when shooting Mining Lasers at an Icy Asteroid, all fine

Bounty Hunting :
- saw a Plasma-Spamming NPC only once (basically 2 PAs being used at ~5 rounds per second and no reload pause.. might want to avoid these ;) )
- me any my Wingman got jumped by a Wing of 5 Vultures, I took the most damage and my FAS went down to 45% Hull... still workable

- HighRES : holy hell, those Police Ships don't screw around... don't land a stray shot. Ever ;)
-> kill-stealing (if done with great care) seems the way to go... I made >1M Cr in 30min just doing that - and I didn't even do it for the Bounty, just needed the Materials to loot
-> kill-stealing sometimes didn't work because the Police Ships shredded even big NPCs in virtually no time

Interdiction NPCs (Mission or Cargo) :
- well, kind of a different story... some of these NPCs are now indeed Super-NPCs. Spamming special Weapons left & right and dishing out insane amounts of firepower
- 1v1 vs ELITE Anacona : Mil-Grade Cutter down to 60% Hull, had help from 3 Authority Vipers
- 1v1 vs ELITE FdL : Shields almost gone when it blew up, had help from a single Authority Viper
(got Turrets on my Cutter now, longest I was able to get that darn Squirrel FdL onto my nose from FA off A/B spamming was about 5-8sec each pass - if I got one that is :p )

Exploration :
- hmm... got jumped in a Degraded Emissions Signal Source by a Dangerous Clipper but made it out in my Asp with no big issues
- otherwise, inside inhabited Systems got jumped by quite powerful NPCs.. good thing my Exploration Ships are all Mil-Grade and carry big Shields
- landed on Planets not far outside the bubble saw a few NPCs (Pirates)... if your Ship carries any Cargo, it'll get attacked - so now I always dismiss it

Trading :
- see above, I was in Trade runs with my Cutter (not even carrying really valuable stuff)
-> okay in heavy/big Multirole Ships - but probably very bad news for some Lakon Traders...

Missions (i.e. ELITE Ranked) :
- gotta be careful with stacking these indeed...
-> some of the Interdictors are extremely powerful, if I'm not in my heavy Combat Ships I'm basically a runner with these (screw the Bonus Rewards)
-> ELITE Ranked smaller Salvage Missions (upto 1M Cr) very nice to do in a Imp. Eagle or any other very fast smaller Ship... seems a good way to make money, when you can Afterburn outta trouble with nearly 500m/sec or more

Interdictions / Bugs :
- well, the warping Escape Vector is still with us it seems
-> now that actually sucks... insta-fail against some of those NPCs in the wrong Ship - you're screwed. Big time. Probably the time to actually "bug log" if needed...

Wow, I posted this right as my meeting with our marketing advisor began- a very short time after, this thread is filled with messages of support, and civil discussion.
Thanks, CMDRs, I really appreciate it.
I do realize that the vocal, somewhat toxic minority is most visible here on the forums, but I was beginning to wonder.

As for combat, I'm pretty good at running away. Though, usually, it's the NPCs that high-wake out, juuuuust before I manage to kill them.
I'll be back in the game when I get home. Maybe I'll see some of you out there, in the black.

07, commanders!

It's still playable, but only just. Park your expensive ship and mess around in something you can easily afford to lose. The landscape has changed considerably, and even without the bugged NPCs with OP weapons the game is different now, and not in an entirely good way. Some stuff is improved, and other stuff is much worse than before.

As an example, I like the new mission system. The presentation is much better, and it gives you a sense of accomplishment as you see your rep and influence rise with a particular faction, and they start giving you better missions. But the downside is that you have to stay in one place and work on your rep there -- choose a system or two and just run missions for the faction(s) you like. You're kind of forced into not wandering, if you want to eventually get good payouts. Also, some of the missions are bugged, some of them are just stupid or annoying, and the interdiction rate is ridiculous in some cases. The NPCs that interdict you are also mostly much more deadly and high-ranked, even when you're doing what should be an easy data carrier mission between secure systems. So expect to get attacked and expect to have to run and expect to sometimes not get away.

The whole Engineers thing is just kind of a mess. I like the idea of upgrades, but they've done it in such a way that you can't actually set a goal of a particular mod and then go after it. You'll go nuts trying to get the exact stuff you need, because all the ingredients (or the vast majority of them) are dropped or made part of missions randomly. There's no way to specifically go and get what you need. People who run around looking for a particular item are getting frustrated. Unfortunately, now that the NPCs have upgraded gear, all of us are under-geared in comparison, so we kinda need to catch up. It's not a good situation.

I'm still finding things to do, because I just love flying my ships, but I've been running around in an Eagle to reduce the risk factor. And I've stopped doing trade runs until this all gets sorted out. It's just too risky. Thus my income has taken a big hit. Overall I think the fun factor has been reduced some from what it was. Hopefully they'll do some balancing and things will get better.
