Newcomer / Intro I'm kinda lost, the galaxy is a huge place.

Well I have obvioulsy not witnessed it, but personally know a guy who credibly claims to have done it. Technically it is for sure doable, by mining rocks on the way the SRV can be self sustained practically forever.

With the potatoes, you do have a point though ;)

Has anyone ever succeeded at that? How did they pack enough potatoes?

In VR it's like sticking one's brain in a blender. Not my idea of fun...

Have you tried using the graphics option to make the SRV move around you in VR instead of your head moving with it? I found that option and the vehicle motion blackout feature took care of SRVR nausea.

When overwhelmed, why not look down instead of up? Could you have fun exploring one landable planet, flying all around it, naming its craters and mountain peaks, landing and exploring some of them, understanding everything in the info panel about it, doing a detailed surface scan? Could you write up a report and post it on the forums so the planet is forever known as Old Rusty Planet?

I have yet to buy and use an SRV, I did land on a plante due to a mission, but it was on a planetary station. It was really tough to land, but I did manage it!

Riding all the way around a planet sounds like a very very long trip, lol. Maybe doable on a smaller moon.Though getting my name on a planet is a long term goal of mine 😊

By the way, can you name your ship, so that when other people scan you, your ship name will be displayed on their HUD info panel? I ask because when you get your first Sidewinder, the game asks you to name it.

If you can pick up the skills and get your controls right the SRV can be flown across a planet quiet fast, not something I can do.

When landing on planets always check the gravity (g) shown on the altimeter bar when the HUD changes, the higher the gravity the more dangerous using downward thrust and not flying level become.

Well if you gonna need a bigger ship then you have a number of choices....

For me I went for an Asp Ex after the Cobra - for 2 reasons

1 It can have more cargo space.
2 I knew I wanted to do a big exploration trip and the Asp Ex was the go to ship for that when I was starting.

Also exploring can net a lot of credits (along with the fun of getting first discoveries on some systems and planets!) and it is very relaxing... apart from the odd time it's not - but I'll let you find out about that yourself.

Yup, currently on my 3rd (don't tell anyone tho', I'm playing it cool ;)) and we now have 55 confirmed planetary circumnavigations on record.

We even did one as an organised expedition: http://buckyballracing.org.uk/kumay.html

Aye, Ive made a bit of credits selling exploration data, as for what ship to buy, I've been looking at the Type-6 (or maybe the Keelback) as it's more within my price range. I just have to find a station that sells it.

There will be plenty - as others have said try the Li Yong Rui systems for discounts on modules and ships.

and don't fly without re-buy!!

I never fly without a re-buy, lol. And yes I'm browsing Li Yong Rui systems at the moment for my next ship, just sightseeing as I travel from system to system.

If you are simply enjoying flying around in a Mk III. Rare good trading gives you good income on small quantities and generally good exploration data too. There are a few websites that suggest routes. Not something I've done much of but it's on my list.

My mission right now is to find a Type-6, for that extra cargo space, and it fits right in to my commanders background story, and old rusty space trucker, with an even older rusty ship

I think you'll dig the Type-6. I know I did when I flew one. Personally, I think the Python is the ultimate trade ship but that will take a while to get. I like to set goals in this game and then work towards those goals one at a time. It keeps things interesting and doesn't burn me out.
