I'm leaving, I don't expect to return.

3) I explore with guns. When Cpt Cook discovered Australia, he was carrying guns. When Lewis and Clark opened up the west, they carried guns. I can not imagine that real explorers in 3303 would not be tooled up.
I dont think they would not, but I still like to hope ;)

However, I must admit I am having a long dark night of the soul, and am considering whether to carry on to Colonia or not. I'm just not sure if I am cut out for this exploration lark for a couple of reasons:

Sometimes I'm in the mood for exploring and sometimes I just want to get to a destination, nothing wrong with either. Took some passengers on the Black in Green mission (a few kylies short of Sag A), raced most of the way there but for a day or so I tripped across various water worlds and ammonia worlds, even a system with WW, AW and Earth Like all next to each other (which was pretty sweet).

Really I reckon you'd be better racing on to Colonia, you can make a 2K LY in an hour or so in a good range ship. Yes it's not the point of exploration but if you're burning out scanning rocky worlds suddenly being 2k LY (or even 4 or more) closer to your destination can make a big difference to your outlook. There's a lot of stars out there you're not employed to scan them all but if you've made it a third of the way out there chances are you'll kick yourself for not pushing on once you're back.

If your scoop is the right size you should be able to scan/scoop and as soon as you're full and it switches off (i.e. out of the heat) charge your FSD and immediately open the system map (bind a key for this), you should just have chance to quickly look at the map and cancel the jump if there's anything interesting.

7K out towards your desired target is a lot to throw away and remember you'll get cash for the ADS scan of any system you haven't been to before, you just won't get first discovered.

Thank you CMDR, I will head on to Colonia, honk and scan, and see what happens...

Perhaps I got a little lonely!

Leaving now, a little tipsy. but the LCU has been amazing so far, so I guess we are off to Colonia...

As for finding interesting stuff.. ELWs is largely a matter of luck, and they're rare. Personally, I find "interesting systems" quite fun to find. Systems with many stars, lots of giant planets, possibly no "valuable" planets, but just lots of stuff and great views.
When it comes to Neutron Stars and Black Holes.. you'll have to seek those out in the Galaxy Map.. randomly jumping into one is incredibly unlikely. (In my 15k+ jumps, I have landed in one, exactly one, unexpected non-sequence star system. (It was a White Dwarf, and it caught me unprepared, promptly crashing me out of supercruise and making me turn home prematurely)).

As for monies, you'll probably have a fair amount of it in the end of this trip if you scan all those HMCs you mention. :)

The DBX may be getting a little less flawed in the future, but it will still look much cooler than the Asp. :)

To all the real Explorers out there:

I salute you and may your gods go with you.

You are the men and women made of the Right Stuff. You are the the seekers of truth, the inquisitors, the enquirers, the pilots who wonder and the Commanders who wander.

You are the heroes, men and women that bring the entire galaxy, it's form and it's nature, back to us lesser pilots who remain in the bubble.

I tried to be hero as well, but I failed. The loneliness defeated me.

I am half way to Colonia but I will drive my beloved DBX into a star. I have spent so much time getting this far, but the way forward is as bleak as the way back. This life of solitude is not for me.

I tried to be one of you, but I failed.

If you ever meet CMDR Sonof Hibachi in his new Sidewinder, know that he looked into his soul and found the hot embrace of a star more to his liking than the admission of failure.
