Newcomer / Intro I'm new here, and have I seen that ship before?

Hello Commanders, Now in my 40's, I first played Elite on a BBC B, back in the 80's, using those weird shaped joysticks, with the little stick on top, soon became second nature, and I loved it. I played Frontier on the Amiga, and that was an awesome game also. Now skip forward 30 odd years, and we have Elite Dangerous, and the only reason I bought an Xbox 1. Wow, an absolute brilliant game, beautiful and evolving. I always was a sci-fi nerd, and my fav show is Blake’s 7. I dabbled in 3d modelling a few years ago, and re-created the ships from the show in 3d. I noticed how much the Federal Corvette was similar to the Scorpio from Blakes 7. I wonder if the designers where influenced by this when they designed the "Vette”.
See you out there.

Yep can sorta see the resemblance a bit there. :)

Also welcome to the forums!
I'm new compared to you having not been alive for the original Elite but I have to say I'm enjoying having the updating and evolving game too!

As you are into 3D modelling you will probably like these images showing how big a few of the E: D ships are if they happened to be parked in/on/around Wembley stadium:

(Though I'm not sure whom should be credited with these images as found them about 6 months ago.)

And on Mat Recardo's Youtube channel there are several videos featuring all the 2.2 ships....the most popular of which is:

I guess I was really. I felt lucky to have a bbc, all my mates had 64's and species...
...but just look how mad those joysticks were compared to the normal ones.

The Beeb joystick was great for Donkey Kong but elite and flight sims made me pay an exorbitant amount for a decent analogue joystick (well, decent for those days), a bit like this:

Used to know someone who had the BBC Elite and was wicked with the BBC analogue joystick. I was an ace on the keyboard, but couldn't get to grips with the joystick; it was so damnably twitchy!

When I first encountered Elite Dangerous, I couldn't fly by keyboard. Now it's HOTAS all the way.

Welcome cmdr! Great 3d models! There is a slight resemblance, but both also look a lot like for example the Venator class Star Destroyers from Star Wars.

Thanks for the warm welcome :)

(I made the model of the Scorpio, after seeing the disapointing version on the Box set of Blakes7 season 4 intro's, and thought "I coul'd do better than that". I also made a Liberator, pursuit ships, space command - Liberator Video HERE)

I'd like to play the PC version, but went for the cheaper option of the Xbox 1... It's really very cool on the XB1. I remember on the beeb having the keymap, that slid behind the perspex above the Fkeys. So can appreciate how a keyboard would certainly help.

Can XB1 share same servers as PC?

Great model of the Scorpio....
I share the love of Blake's 7 myself (hence my GT) and have commented about the similarity with the Corvette as well as the Conda, in the past.

Also as with you, I started on the BBC and moved to Amiga later. Hadn't seen those joysticks for years though ... A real blast from the past! Also bought the Xbox just to play ED too!
