Im not leaving Elite because it's still the best space sim around, for me at least.
Migratory birds. Keep coming back, unless you shoot them.
I used to have that problem with the postman.

I'm not leaving Elite because of VR, but that might all change with Odyssey if FDEV don't get their act together.

Honestly, I just love the flight model. FA-OFF is great and precision aiming is a rewarding challenge for me. I love how the different ships actually feel different to fly and have their own quirks and characteristics.
Sometimes I get annoyed with things. Sometimes I get bored of what's on offer. But after I take a break, I can jump on my Hotas and have a good time (even if I'm mostly just making my own fun).
