I'm pumped for Panther Clipper

Going through elite dangerous wiki page, I saw an upcoming ship known as the Panther Clipper, and apparently this ship is a step up from Lakon 9 when it comes to trading because it can hold more cargo. I'm currently saving up for it even though I have no idea how much it would cost so I'll assume it'll be around 200 mill - 300 mill. Anyway anyone else is excited as I am?

EDIT: this is the site http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Panther_Clipper and boy o' boy she's a pretty lil thang

It will come with a class 7 FSD, or it will have no jumprange worth thinking about.

So that's another 50 million for the FSD

I'm guessing Class 8 or even 9 FSD probably, based on the size it had in the prequel. That Panther was a big heavy mother of a ship. If memory serves it had a cargo space of only 1400 or so tons once you had the engine in, and you had to take up space for the guns and stuff.

So my guess would be 1000 - 1200 tons cargo space.

Be nice if it had some gun ports - you could arm and shield her to the teeth in the earlier games, but given the fact that it's supposed to be a pure cargo ship now, I guessing it'll be as dangerous as a kitten combat wise :(

I just wish they'd either drop the clipper name or up the sublight speed some. I know, the name's probably set in stone and it's not that important, but it rankles.

In one of the Sherlock Holmes stories "The Sign of Four" after chasing The Aurora down the Thames Holmes remarks that he had not known that she was such a clipper and is told she was one of the fastest launches on the river.

:Edit

Still want one of course.

I has links with words such as clip in the context of 'going at a fast clip'. Clipper is a word that indicates speed and if I recall it did have a fair range with a big engine in the original game. Since all ships had the same speeds in effect as there were no distinctions between normal and SC flight in the original game, no ship was any faster in flight than any other so it was all down to jump range.

2000t would be way over the top compared to other ships. I expect it to be around 800-1000t, Class 7 FSD is likely, or it won't get anywhere fully laden. And yes, I want one :)

>=1000t of cargo ?! Really?
Than trading in this will totally kill other carriers in ED, if we look at CR per hour profit.

Hehe, it will have the inertia of an asteroid - but yea - me wants. Can't wait to get this into my hands. Also eager to see its stats, not only cargo - but also jumprange. Speed, well... most probably the conda will look like a speedster compared to the PC :D

It really is the next logical upgrade for rich traders, My T9 will become a mining ship, and my Conda will stay as a long range explorer. If the Panther is anything like the original it will be armed to the teeth, Anaconda style security but able to haul some serious tonnage.

If it can take that much cargo, we have to assume its pretty massive.
Maybe a little to massive to get into a space station??
I see people struggle with a Type 9.

If its scaled down to fit into the letterbox in game, it breaks a lot of the lore of the ship and makes you wonder what they are using the rest of the space in the type 9 for?

I would love to see some real scale brought to be Elite with bigger stations and ships 10/20 times bigger than Fed/Imp Battleships.
Everything in Elite feels really small, even the galaxy. Mainly due to have fast you can fly past planets and how small they look, even when you drop into space next to them.

I recently watched Jupiter Ascending ( not a bad film ) but when you see some of the space scenes around Jupiter, it makes the planet feel huge and the ships you are in, so small and significant. Would like to feel that in Elite.

It will fit through the slot fine.. It's been posted a hundred times, 99 of them by me ;) if you want that feeling of scale and depth you need to get VR

and it should have manned prominent turrets on top and the bottem.

Not big enough.

I would like to see *cough* Eve scale ships *cough*
I've never played Eve but i see the scale they use for their dreadnoughts.

I still have the hope that one day a Battle of Endor style battle would be doable in Elite. Wings flying around huge battleships. *dreams*
