I'm soooo bored now, short review of ED and suggestions

Shock horror! read it here first....business tries to make money.....
Oh and your idea of fun, is not necessarily any one elses idea of fun. Each to their own.

This is almost true, but the businesses out to make money when they are making entertainment is what leads capcom to thinking they can't make any money from their current IP's. fun games make the most money (usually not exclusively)

While there are many areas that need improving and introducing to the game, like the passenger system. This post is more an angry rant over essential gameplay aspects I feel needed fixing Asap before we can add more complexity to the game. Do not feel it is anywhere near ready for strolling on planets yet as much as we would like that. The space game needs fleshing out. At the moment it's just roleplayers in space, I stopped watching Barney the purple dinosaur a long time ago and I know how to use my 'imagination' LOL

When a media project becomes solely about making money the quality of content is lessened.... Look at the music industry as an example.... I didn't buy the game so FD could get rich.... I bought the game so I could have some fun... apparently this was secondary on FD's to do list.

They are making the elite that have always wanted to make. It a labour of love not some money making get rich quick scheme. Your views are very misguided but your entitled to them no matter how far fetched they may be.

I don't think Frontier going bust would make ED a better gameBlimey is it free lobotomy day or something
OK I'l Bite.FD are not going bust any time soon... and wouldn't go bust if they had waited to release Elite for a further year... when the work in progress sticker wouldn't have been so overwhelmingly large....The fact they decided to release at a time when so much was left to do to get the game up to a standard that would retain players means they clearly do not care about the players.....That is a big mistake to make if they expect to survive moving forwards to achieve DB's vision... the only way they will achieve that is by paid updates.... But once bitten, twice shy... FD are like a bully in the playground.... they are anything but graceful and I can tell you that will have a more negative effect economically for them than taking the slow but correct route..... I know it may hurt to hear it... but there really is no substitute to actually doing the work... doing half a job is not going to win you much other than a bad rep and a vastly reduced payday.

There are no "essential gameplay aspects" missing. There are ones you think need to be added, and that list would differ from other peoples list.

Your post was more a temper tantrum over them not doing it your way, and not doing it now, than it was an angry rant.

There does seem to be a trend of not understanding that, there is not only one way to play this game, rather than there are many ways that it can be played, but ultimately there is no absolute goal.

Each path, offers the option to choose differing goals with differing time-scales these could be long or short. It is not however, a game that is being designed to please just one player type, and while trying to reasonably balance each path type, is always going to be difficult, and an ongoing process it will always also be a little contentious. As one player type gets all "NO" or "Ragequiting" when FD do something that does not please them, while I believe the majority just get on and play how they like...

In my opinion "bored" = a failure to understand differing game mechanics also that when buying a game, consider what your expectations are for the gameplay, as it is not what it might become unless you like to support game developers game types warts and all.

Perhaps I am just easily pleased, but I brought this game with the expectation of playing on and off, and not having rigid win state goals, I also expect the balance to change on a regular basis, and that it wont be finished as such.

+1. Have some rep.

Let's face it, it's boring.

Do you not find it a little sad that you hang out on a forum and play a game that You find boring? I find it completely bizarre that someone would choose to do that. I have friends that play games that I find incredibly boring, guess what? I don't play those games or visit the forums. Why not play something you enjoy? Many including myself enjoy the game immensely, but at the same time i completely understand why others find it boring.

My girlfriend cant stand this game, I cant stand candy crush...

If that were only true... Then we wouldn't have a released scaffold of a game right now. They would have worked on that labour of love.. giving it every loving touch up and bit of polish before releasing it... something to be proud of... A 1:1 scale galaxy maybe impressive, But it gives you no real reason to play it... it doesn't grab you and steal every free second you have because you can't wait to get in it.... it just doesn't scream play me and keep playing me.

I'd also like to know when the music industry wasn't about making money while we're at it

How funny: "music" and "industry" are terms pretty much opposing each other.
Music is art - it's coming from an inner drive of expression which is converted into a kind of harmony with a meaningful message in most case. It's a contribution of soul.
Industry is the production line of soulless contents which deprives its subjects from uniqueness and personality but makes the result available to a wider range of people called customers.

And if I look around I always see the industry (=business) part taking over the art.
Games industry is no different. Industrial products will use marketing to fill up the emptiness of the missing soul and enthusiasm. Is FD's budget small? It's big enough to be considered industrial. So it's a business which lacks of sensitivity but overloaded with profit margins and expectations.
Hard to meet requirements in this working environment and the product has much less chance to be long term satisfactory.

Some music is art. Most is business aimed at making money controlled by agents that want to get rich.

I think it's people with your point of view that don't understand.... People who are stating their views which are backed up and not individualistic as in there are more than a few people that think it... are posting here because they LOVE Elite.. or rather what Elite should have been... and now terribly disappointed that something that could have been simply isn't.... I myself stopped playing two months ago after realizing it had nothing left to offer me. I'd done everything there was to do other than to say I visited the Sag A or have gone from this side to that..... I haven't posted here for a while and thought I'd come back and check what developments have been made.... and all I can see is WINGS.... more scaffolding.... Still no real improvements....

Seriously guys if you think art and commerce have until recently been entirely separate disciplines I have some bad news for you

+1 Rep.... Absobloodylutely! It's shocking that the industry is now so ingrained that people don't even know what music really is anymore.... I truly hope this is not the future of video games.

Again you are entitled to you opinion but it is merely that, an opinion it is not actuall fact. You don't like the game others do.

No rifter, you are taking your own view on the game and stating it is fact for everyone else... That is simply not a realistic way to look at it. Ed has a huge number of people that enjoy the game, it also will have a huge number of people that find this kind of game boring, it would be incredibly strange if it was any other way.

You are obviously free to vent, but stating your opinion as if it unanimously accepted is utter nonsense... The game has more than enough to keep me and many others entertained, I expect in the next year it will continue to grow. Myself and many others are in for the longhaul, the devs clearly listen to customer feedback, they even unfortunately listen to the endless whinging... still they have a clear path, it's been like that since alpha.

I fully understand, and am more than happy with what I have right now. Take a look at GTA online, a billion dollar game, nearly two years to get it right.

I have no idea what your in game experiance is like, this is an open world so you choose your own path and create your own entertainment, kinda makes me think of the saying .'Boring people get bored easily'

I have to ask one thing, do you use a Rift? I find it hard to believe someone can be bored with this game using the DK2, just Exploring in the Rift for me could keep me entertained for the foreseeable future

If only 10% of this concept is implemented it would still be 100 times better than what we have here. So in this case yes I will be comparing it.

I respect peoples wish to defend the game they love but come on , don't you want better? Also we paid money for this too remember. Expansions will not be free

so you are comparing with a pipe dream likely to be changed a hundred times before implementation. makes sense

How can you judge gameplay improvements just by visting a forum? Heres,a hint - you cant.

On the face of it, looking at a description of the game, Halo is in the same class as Duke Nuke 'Em. Both are first person shooters, both have lots of guns, both have lots of things to kill.

But does just reading a spec list tell you about the gameplay? Or do you acxtually have to get in there to be able to make your own mind up?

And just because more than a few people think something, doesnt make it right.
