I'm stuck inside of/have become, a Planet.

I was attempting to land on a planet, and yes I confirmed that it WAS a landable planet...

I was approaching very slowly, even deliberately pulling out from the glide early because the planet has 0.51G and I'm attempting to land with an Anaconda. I didn't want to come gliding in too fast and risk a heavy ship crashing into the surface from the higher gravity..

But, just as I dropped below 1000 km... parts of the planets surface starting vanishing beneath me...

My ship then appeared to 'merge' with the planet, spinning in circles within its interior... then it nosed up and flew off the top of my screen and vanished, and now I've become the planet itself... with some strange glowing Pear!

I can't escape, I've lost all my huds... when pressing ESC, I've lost the game menu. I had to use the Windows Task Manager and force the game to shut down, and I'm scared to log back in!

Anyone ever encountered anything like this, and know how I can resolve it without crashing and blowing up? I have months and months worth in cartography data from the Elysian Shore and The Formidine Rift that I don't want to lose...

I've found the support site where I've sent in a support ticket...

But it says it could be several days before I get a response...

In the meantime, I guess I get to be UNICRON and fly around this solar system as a Planet.

There’s an option in the menu for a stuck recovery to orbit for odd situations like this.

Please READ the post, before replying...

I don't have a menu anymore.

Its gone!

Due to the data dilemma I’d ask frontier for help…..from the game launcher, without loading fully back Into whatever reality you find may yourself…….where the option for help is…….er similar to SlickPBW suggested.

As an aside......yes I've fallen into planet surfaces awhile back both whilst in SRV or ship, but think this was due to my old laptop which couldn't cope to catch even the minimum requirements for the game. I've noticed my ship suddenly halting on the way down to a planet surfaces, accompanied with the message too close, when aiming past the rim of a crater (never from outside my ship though, maybe external camera). To be clear i was in the game and not in the game launcher when experiencing the odd planet scenarios.

I had an odd one once.

Logged into the game and saw my ship was in space when I thought I'd logged whilst landed.

It seemed none of my controls worked until I tried powering the ship up for lift off.

Which it did. In space. From a planet I was apparently on but which had decided to activate its cloaking device.

How I laughed.

The menu is in the launcher rather than in-game. Can you run the launcher?
I just went through the entire (new) launcher, no sign of stuck recovery. I did find the option from the main menu, under "Help and Info". That is accessible before re-entering the game.

It doesn't state anything about "orbit" any more, so OP's confusion is understandable. My original reply was just as confusing, so I edited it after testing. I also thought it was "recover to orbit".

Verify game files using the Frontier launcher: MANAGE->VALIDATE FILES. Open the game from the launcher afterwards, and you'll see the planet generation system will do a full run. Once you're at the main menu, try the "Stuck Recovery" option. After that, try to enter the game.

If you lose everything, it was already lost. Waiting won't change that. If you're still stuck, waiting won't change that either. Worst case, you'll have to wait for support to correct either issue.

Don't forget to update the thread once your issue is resolved. There are too many dead-ends here already.

I dont have any options on the launcher menu to get unstuck.

I contacted Frontier through their support ... as ironically the only option that I DO have on the launcher is a button for "Contact Support" , which is what I used.

But considering this happened at around 2 AM Eastern time on a Sunday morning for me... I don't expect to hear back from them until later Monday, or hopefully at least by Wednesday.

I can launch the game, but I would rather be patient and wait for them to look at the problem, as opposed to trying to log in myself and end up losing all my cartography data... I once lost 650+ Million credits worth in cartography data because I got careless and tried to land on a planet with 0.70 gravity with my Anaconda and didn't realize I was coming down too fast until it was too late, crashed right into the surface and blew up.

This time, I probably have closer to a billion worth in data.. so I'm not going to risk losing it. Though thats actually more a rough guesstimate on the amount, I don't really have any clue how much its all worth, but I know I've been out there for maybe the past year now, where as last time I was out for only a couple months, but I found more Earth Like Worlds back then... where as this time I've been finding more ammonia worlds and water worlds, but stayed out there longer.

I'm hoping to catch a ride back on the next Formidine Rift Carrier expedition when it comes back out, presuming the Carrier has a spot available.... though at the moment I'm roughly 12K light years from that expeditions final destination... I was going to do a few dozen jumps tonight to get a little closer, but then this stuck in a world bug happened.

the stuck recovery option always puts your ship safely in orbit thus negating any ship collision detection destruction issues
so like i said no worries there.........
always sell any carto data as soon as the opportunity arises there is no benefit to not doing so wereas if you dont you could potentially loose 1st claims discoverys
or worse loose it all by way of destruction as you mentioned

Basing most of my hope for you on your testimony of watching your ship leave intact. I’d wait for frontier too. Unless your launcher is out of date, there should be an option under help…….it won’t be out of date……but I’d wait.

Launch the non horizons game and you should be fine. It will put you in high orbit around the planet and no risk to your data. Then just close and relaunch horizons from orbit. Been there done that.

I still see your ship's thrusters in that image. Definitely some kind of rendering error. Odd that it's persistent.

I'd clear all shader caches, delete the game's GPUWorkTable.xml, and try again. If that fails, you'll have to launch the non-Horizons game in the 4.0 client (if you aren't playing Legacy), which can be convoluted.

If the OP is playing Odyssey, there is no official non-Horizons client, so this isn't as simple.

What can be done is using the Minimal Elite Dangerous Launcher with a custom settings.json that tells the launcher to use SeasonOne instead of SeasonTwo, allowing one to play 4.0 non-Odyssey & non-Horizons (no planetary landings or terrain generation at all, while still on the Odyssey servers using the 4.0 client).

Just change "SeasonOne" to "SeasonTwo" to switch between pre-Horizons and Horizons versions for the /edh4 switch.
