I'm Taking the Game's Starting Loaned Sidewinder to Andromeda, Or I'll Die Trying.

With that build, it's a whopping 64,834 jumps at best to travel 2.5M light years! Clearly not a distance to be travelled for the unprepared. o7 to you, CMDR! Let us know how it goes. :)

I think you could count on at least 2 minutes for each jump. Charging Fsd, the jump, cooldown etc. Thats 129.668 minutes, or 2162 (2161.13) hours, or 90 full days of jumping. Time for fuel scooping not included. Nice little trip in other words. :D

When I just scoop, scan and scoot, I do around 50 jumps per hour.
That includes a couple seconds to peek at the FSS and see if there are any ELWs that I want to discover & map.

Enjoy my Third Earth-Like of the Journey So Far, This One is Around a Neutron Star!

Good luck, CMDR. The Sidewinder is a fine exploration vessel - I've been using it for surveying for quite a while. Though my build trades off between sanity (such as it is) and range:

I just wanted to leave a smol update for the people still watching this thread.

Sorry its been such a long time since the last update Things went sideways very fast IRL and I haven't really wanted to open this thread because it meant having to acknowledge some things going on, which is hard!

So, to recap, July 5th I was sent on a SUPER TOP SEKRET work trip to a far away land, where the internet didn't really exist in a way for me to download games to my laptop, and I didnt have anything to do for 2 weeks. I thought "ah ok, well, things should be alright till I get home, then I'll pick it back up again!

Obviously that isn't the case.

When I got back home after those long two weeks, a few things happened all at once:
  • My PC's SSD died. Not like, off, but enough that I can't load up a game without some massive SSD stuttering happening, meaning its just not having a good time.
  • I got a hold of a 3080 TI from best buy. (Finally) This launched operation "Build a new god damn PC already" to which the plan was to buy the most expensive bit (GPU) then slowly pile in the rest of the things I needed and end with a fully built PC. I had planned on saving for 2 weeks to get the rest of the money I needed for parts, then BOOM, new PC and back on my journey.

Well. This was about a month ago. I thought "whats 2 more weeks" and used my laptop for the time being, waiting for my sweet paychecks to be able to cover the rest of the parts.

Turns out, Life had a few other ideas in mind.
  • Doggo needed shots (expensive!)
  • I might be adopting a new pet! (Application processes!)
  • I just started a Mortgage process for buying my first house! (Down payments!)
  • Washing Machine Broke! (Ouch!)

And to put the cherry on top, last friday (the day I was supposed to buy all the new Parts to my new PC!), my beautiful Bright Cherry Red Hot Rod 2006 Mustang GT that I've been fixing up for the last year to turn into a classic show car (find me on discord if you want pics of the car NOT destroyed!) , got T-Boned by someone running a red light who is now lying about the red light, meaning DEDUCTIBLES! Pending that investigation, I dont know if its been totaled or not, or if I'll have to cash out the PC savings to pay off a $1,000 deductible because someone is lying about hitting me!

So yeah, I'm really sorry that I haven't tried to update anything in a while. I am still 100% Going Further on my Andromeda Run once I get my new PC parts ordered and put together. Gotta deal with all this crazy all at once life stuff first, get my baby fixed up (hopefully not totaled!), and then we'll see about the PC and running back out into space!

Thanks to the few of you that have been reading and listening to my ramblings and space madness. I hope the next time you hear something in this thread, it's me returning to the black!

Lots of Love,

Arboo

Youch! Yeah, life is what happens instead, when you're busy making plans. ;)

The good news is that the game, this thread, and your sidewinder will still be there waiting for you when you're ready.

Still here, still kicking, still alive. Have a great story for you all.

If you haven't heard, I'm planning a charity event at the moment. It's just around the corner, and just like the last 3 years we've done this, I've promised my group I'd drive around a planet in an SRV once again.

Well, uh, slight problem there, last time I logged off with these SSD issues, I was stuck on a carrier 26,000ly away in the core. The carrier owner had been parked there for some time and I was using his wonderful spot to neutron boost back and forth for a few weeks.

I logged in today, DREADING the fact that I was about to try traveling 26kly with a broken, stuttering SSD. However, I had found that CMDR Xen and his lovely carrier "Heart of Darkness" had made the entire trip for me in the months that I have been away.

So instead of 500+ jumps home, it was shortened to a wonderful 3!

Home! (for now).

Once the charity event ends, I'll hopefully be able to FINALLY afford this new PC. I've got a somewhat-secondary PC lined up for the charity event itself (my server PC atm) but that needs a ton of setup and part swapping to get that able to run elite for 24 hours.

Almost back in the saddle. Home for the time being. Charity!

Thanks for continuing to read this madness,

Cheers,

Arboo

Guess whose back, back again.

After some crazy black friday dealings, finishing up closing on a new house, and finally saving for closing costs AND car repair, I got all my parts on a special black friday binanza!!! I plan on building it (on stream) this saturday, and by next week I'll be drowning in new computer juicy goodness.

I'd also like to take a second to throw my appreciation towards Newegg, for not only having an AWESOME payment system (litearlly 0 interest, charge you 4 times) so that I could get all my parts without worrying about house / car stuff, but ALSO having some ridiculous deals on stuff.

See you soon friends!!!

2161 hours to make jumps. MacDonald pays 10$/hr to wash dishes. = 21610$.
Don't you think you could just wash dishes and donate whole payment?
....not sure how charity could be related here :D
