I'm tired - But rough maths says exploring payout is a total JOKE

Been on a long trip, cost me 157,000 in repairs, best system payout 115,000!

Are you kidding me>?

Will do a spreadsheet tomorrow if I can be bothered, but if I find a 100% metal planet worth 34,000,000,000,000 I would expect more than 50,000

Just saying I'm disappointed with the return, so much so I'm NOT selling the data!

Anyway when I got back I picked up a mission to transport some human poo 10ly for 35k !

50k cr for a metal planet? Holy crap, I've hit the jackpot then. Found a system with 23 of them. A crap ton more systems with 5-6.

Every method of making money in the game has been nerfed. You have to grind endlessly to get paid. Period.

No mention of what type of ship you're flying, or how you accumulated 157k in repairs... 115k pay out for a system sounds nice for flying around exploring the galaxy. Did you take any screen shots?

Also, what kind of scanners were you running?

It helps build rep, and you can gather it on journeys you are already having to make. It's also not anywhere near as fleshed out as it's supposed to be, so consider it a placeholder. Take advantage when it makes sense but I wouldn't go out of my way to do it.

My last trip lasted about a week and netted me 950k total in sales, and I barely did any scanning on the way home.

Yes, you could probably make more than that - a lot more - if you traded or did combat for the same period of time.

But why am I not the least bit disappointed by my income? This is why:

Yep before the skybox got nerfed I made 2.5 mil on a very long trip, the view were worth more than the payout

Nice pictures ElleShaped. I've actually already seen those first two in another post if I remember correctly.

15 mil ASP - repairs from a 4,000ly round trip, I did not take many screens as the skybox has been screwd. Scanners are max - Advanced and surface

Yeah, most of them have been posted before, when I took 'em, but I thought it would be neat to put them all in one place.

And what is this 'skybox 'nerf'' I have been hearing about? Looks the same to me out here. Is it possibly a drivers issue or something for the affected people? Because the galaxy and the stars are just as vibrant and beautiful where I am as they have always been...

Exploring should be its own reward.

Yes and no. When you're playing a game you expect it to acknowledge you're doing the right thing, even if you're doing it for yourself. It's a gaming thing, one of those subconscious mechanisms that make games tick.

Each game has its own mechanisms of acknowledgement. One of the most prominent ones in this game is credit rewards (others could be praise in flavor text, reputation rewards, boosting a faction's influence, satisfying explosions...). If you do what you think is right (explore extensively in this case), you come home to sell the data feeling satisfied about your achievement, and then it turns out you lost money in the transaction. That feels as if the game was punishing you. Is not that much about the money, but about the game acknowledging your actions as appropriate. You might feel rewarded by the exploration itself, but if the game takes money from you for it, it's telling you that you should not feel successful.

Same with every mechanic. That's why balancing is so important in games like these.
