I'm working for a bunch of jerks

Long story short, due to a odd bit of game play, I stumbled across a player faction, and then found an NPC Anarchy faction in their system that I wanted to support.

It started out nice, but lately, they're nothing but jerks. It's all kill missions, massacre missions, assassination missions. I didn't sign up to be a hitman. And I am not shooting up X number of civilian ships, no matter how much it pays. Sure, a few politicians here and there.. maybe a deserter every now and then. But not full time.

So I decided to hit the local HazRES, maybe shoot up pirates associated with the player faction.. If I can't raise my own factions influence, drop the others <== BGS maxim >. So at the HazRES... the VAST majority of pirate ships ARE FROM MY OWN CLAN, so I don't want to shoot them or I'll loose rep. But when there's 20 ships, 15 have bounties, and ALL of those are from the group I support. Argh.

There's a huge difference between Chaos and Anarchy.

So.. I'm thinking of ditching these guys. Unless there's a way to affect what missions get offered ? I haven't seen one, but who knows ?

You do get that every faction is like this, right? In fact the whole game is a test of how far you put your hands into the filth.
It's true.

Still, a shame that pirate factions don't really properly support the actual act of piracy (nor does the game, still). Except for cosplay players of course. They're fine.

you could, if there are black markets in system, support your anarchy faction by smuggling. i'm not really sure, whether that only works, if they control a black market (somebody will know).

as for missions ... outside of states, i don't really know a way. and the hard way is to trigger a boom in the first place ... FDev claims, the more missions you do of a kind, the more you get offered of those. (I'm sceptical...).

It all depends on the sliders. Right now our anarchy faction is in civil liberty and investment, so it's pretty much guaranteed I'll pick up scan missions (no-one has to die) delivery missions (no-one has to die) and a few political assassinations (a public service) so it does get better once you build the faction up.

As has been said, if you really want to support any faction, you're going to have to do something illegal at some point.

I dunno, I see plenty of missions from pirate factions to "liberate" goods from people who don't deserve to keep them. Unless you mean they're just not worth doing, in which case perhaps... But at least it doesn't max your notoriety like civilian massacres.

I meant the latter. Plus, actual piracy hasn't ever been properly supported but this isn't the thread to start going into that.

You supported an anarchy faction. What did you think they might get up to?

Freedom from oppression. Help my fellow Anarchists and anybody else who is in need. No clowns who think they can tell me what to do and if there are some they get exploded. Anarchy doesn't mean criminal.

Still makes me wonder, anarchy faction = criminals. Why not lawful or lets say order faction and say assassination missions and such?

That is one thing that irks me, Anarchy /= criminals or lawless. I mean even the in-game faction statement says something along the line of not following rules and laws beside the ones set out for their members. We even have system security ships in Carcosa. It might be a bug, but still.

The missions differ from systems to system. In some of the systems we are present there are the kill this or that faction ships. In others it's just scan and plain old cargo. There are also lots of non-Anarchy factions who give you kill civilian ships missions. It's not black and white, just like with everything else. Anyways, support your local Anarchies, they have it hard enough with less possible bgs buckets to fill and always being the target of kill missions and ill-informed goody-good-shoes. In return you get a system for free engineering mat collection, maybe some superpower ships, an IF, a black market for your interestingly acquired goods, a place to have fun without worrying about forgetting the crimes on setting, and some interesting different missions. Don't make the galaxy a cookiecutter place, there everything looks and is the same.
