Hardware & Technical iMac and Voice Attack problem,

Ok, I've come across my first Bootcamp problem (grrr to that!) and it's affecting my desire to use Voice Attack.
The built in iMac mic is pants. Fact. So I thought, I know, I'll just use my iPhone earbuds with the built in mic, easy peasy... but no, it's not easy peasy because Windows (7) does'nt see the headphone jack as a mic input. I guess the bootcamp drivers just don't bother with this functionality.

Now, considering that I'm also in the market for a decent set of headphones, I guess I could solve my mic problem by getting a 'Gaming Headset". Can anyone offer any recommendations on what might be a decent buy that WILL work with a Bootcamped Windows 7 (64bit)?

Apologise for stating obvious but did you try connecting to the audio in instead of audio out ? It's right next to it.

I don't know about earlier iMacs but late 2013 models only have one jack at the back which in OS X doubles up as a mic input.

Ahem. Didn't know that. About time.

Mine is a mid-2011 I think and two separate ports.

You could try a usb-mic converter?

I think I have used a 'Singstar' mic before from the PS3, that came with a USB dongle and worked natively. Not that handy for VoiceAttack though I guess.

Not really an option for me, only get to fly late at night and next to boys' room.

Thanks anyway Majere, I guess I'm just going to have to take the plunge and buy a usb headphone/mic combo. I just don't like the thought of parting with wonga without first knowing that what ever I buy will work.

I use a Microsoft Lifechat LX-3000 USB headset with built in mic on my iMac in bootcamp (win7). A good sturdy piece of kit with good quality sound. I use it without is in ED, including voice attack and teamspeak3. It works equally well in Yosemite.
