General / Off-Topic Imagine a world in which...

The short answer is no.

Reason? What's the last time you cached common cold or flu? You wanna die into it? Well, without modern medicine you can. So medicine is going to advance, and we going to procreate like there is no tomorrow.
Right, but I wasn't asking if you think modern medicine is good. I was asking if you think people are living to their optimal ages right now, or you think people should live for longer...and if you think yes we should live longer, then how long?

Hard question. :)

At first what do you call optimal age? The biological maximum determined by our biology and genetics? We are near to it. Or the plausible age determined by our medical science? We can increase this one, and i don't think its a bad idea especially in west where the population is decreases, what means we need to extend our lifespan and productive age, because sure as hell our way of life not makes possible the drastic increase of fertility, and anyone who comes there are either became the part of it, and get himself caught in the net of same problems. or how can i put it nicely?

Well? I'm afraid there is no way to be politically correct. A threat to our society, with a high factor of risk to change our civilization. Now... The question is, they can change it for the better, or worst?
I'm afraid the second answer is the right one, because compared in sociological advancement? They are behind us. Science and tech? the gap is insignificant in there, nothing they can't learn.

Furthermore i think this question is cannot be separated from the current world politics, and social crisis es. They are part of it trough the problems created by our declining population, what i don't see as necessarily bad thing. Because there are too many of us already, the reason why is a problem, because in the other parts of world the population is not declining, so we cant keep up, and even worst by the aging of population we also facing with another disadvantage.

In short, there is no way around it but we must increase our lifespan and productive age, and bypass, resolve the problems causing infertility. Poisons, unhealthy life, and such.

Let's take a step back and ask the counter-question: why should it be anyone's right to decide for someone else how long they shall live?

There is functionally no difference between denying a person the treatment to an otherwise fatal disease, and denying a person the treatment that would prevent death of old age - the one who denies it decides the other person has to die. Heck, by definition both would constitute a "death of natural causes".

I like philosophical questions. Mankind is greedy by nature. Even if they reach immortality, it will never be enough for them and not be satisfied with themselves. Perhaps we may turn into "the superman" stage in evolution. Let's try to maintain our world in hope that one day, we may conquer other worlds for the sake of the human race just in case our sun turns supernova... Hamburger anyone?

Well, I personally didn't introduce that idea (of denying it to anyone). I was always working under the assumption that everyone had the treatment. Other people in the discussion brought that into the mix, which to me is a curious way of thinking about it.

2^32= 4294967296 continue counting, and also add up all the previous outcomes. In case of immortality, only a question of time when all space are filled up, and all resources are used up.
And if you immortal? Than you have plenty of time.

Unfortunately, your premise rests on the assumption that time is infinite.Just a thought.

How many time a human need to reach sexual maturity?
14-16 years sometimes even less.

Start counting...

Lets say one generation on average takes 20 years. that's means 5 generations within 100 years. 32 generations takes 640 years. in reality, even less because once we reach maturity and take child making seriously we don't stop after the first 2.

So, from 1 grain (one couple) we reach 429.496.7296 couple, within 640 years. and this model is showing a slow population increase.

Warning! actual politics don't open it if you not interested.
And to take this to actual politics level once more?
The number of immigrants are not a joke! And this is why. Too many comes to successfully disperse in the EU, and assimilate to our society, and this is a problem. A Big one! In this way they are forming ghettos or enclaves call it however you want. No dispersion, no assimilation, no integration. And even now they are trying to enforce their ideas onto us. Now, tell me! how its going to end?

And just to make it clear im not a racist, xenophobe or whatsever furthermore i saying its our duty as a human begin to help the refugees, the refugees! But not the immigrants. If we want to keep our world how is now, and want to continue our path to the future what we dreamed of? We must think twice how many can come, and became part of our word. Not to mention the strain, what these numbers placing to our social network, and the internal tensions created by yet again the sheer numbers.
