Newcomer / Intro Imperial Clipper

5% of total cost as normal. Hard to give a figure as the upgrades can be more than the base price.

If you're planning on buying one I suggest getting one at Nu while her Grace still offers a discount on them.
Not only will you be getting it for 7 million less but the insurance reflects the discounted price as well.

Any idea when that offer expires? I have about 32m which should cover purchase, some upgrades and insurance, but I'm stuck on "Lord" and having trouble getting the next progression mission.

Today is the last day to get the Clipper for the discounted price. Here is a post I made about leveling factions. Hope it helps. If you hump it you may still get Baron and your clipper today.

Here's what I did.

1) if you don't have one...get a type 6 and upgrade it's FSD and whatever else you can afford (PP, PD, Thrusters.. etc)
2) Find a Agriculture planet and buy 10 of each food (Algea, Fruit & veggies, coffee..etc)
3) Visit each of the neighboring systems that are non-agricultural (industrial, refinery, extraction, high tech). Also, buy some agri-medicines and food cartridges when you see them. There are a few missions for these as well.
4) Look for "Need food" missions from minor factions that are ONLY aligned with the major faction you want to rank up in. Take the mission, give food, move to the next star.
5) Pick up courier missions as well. They are quick one way trips and no cargo space needed. Again, never take a mission from a minor faction that doesn't have the symbol of the major faction (Empire, Federation, Alliance) by their name.
6) Forget any combat missions. They are a huge time sink. Stay with food and couriers.

Do this until you get a Naval Progression Opportunity mission. Do that mission and move about 30-50 LY's away, find another agriculture planet and start over. The reason for this move is because to keep your Major faction rep steadily rising you will "cap out" on rep with local minor factions and you must find new minor factions to raise your rep with. I got to Baron in probably 5 days of playing. I would likely have cut this down a lot if I knew this system going in rather than figuring it out myself.

Happy faction grinding:D

WOW! I did the exact same thing :) Trust me, do this it works. There is a little leg work before hand, but it gets easy after getting the hand of the process.

Also......If you've been hitting a new area pretty hard for couple of hours and don't see any Naval Progression Opportunities...Log out of the game and back in. I'm not sure if this helps (It can't hurt)..but when I started out in the Empire I did a butt-ton of missions and wasn't seeing a NPO. I logged out and back in and there was a NPO mission. I did it and turned it in and there was another one as soon as the Bulletin Board refreshed.

Hmmm, I just got to Nu to get my cheap clipper and now its 22 million and not 15 million..... was the 15 million price tag with the trade in of my cobra?

Buggah, looks like you just missed out on the sale. Sorry to hear good sir. I know it was still up this morning EST as my friend picked one up but they must have just taken it down. Are Tuesdays when they reset the servers for this game?

Nah, the discount ended.

Realistically, you need about 36-40 million cr to get a viable Clipper. Viable means class A FSD and power distributor, the rest is upgraded to class D for max range. BTW, the fuel scoop is non-optional on that ship unless you are doing point A to point B trading.

Save some cash and get it - you'll love it. Once I bought it, I did the 70-stop rare trading trip to get comfortable with the ship and earn some cash in the process to upgrade it. Shields are relatively weak, so I'd start upgrading with those.

Agreed but doesn't mean you can't buy one for 25,000,000 and then use its trade capability to earn the rest...OK it will be a struggle initially but you can earn cash much faster trading in the Clipper than a T6/Asp. Just best to trade somewhere out of the way for safety.
