The Imperials have cooler ships, cooler clothes and are just cooler. The Feds fly abominations like the dropship which looks like a flying iron whereas us Imperials fly the most beautiful Clipper. Also we make great mints...

How dare you.....taking the emperor's name in vain.....your name is now at the top of the list for our glorious imperial agents to hunt you down...

Bask in greatness....

I'll see you in Volungu.

Don't tell him what it is Jpaulwilson1982!

My in-game name is different from my forum name, but not by much. CMDR John Paul Wilson.

Cooler ships? Yep, I'll give you that one. But we have better pilots. And Sol :D

Well if you want to compare the shapes of the ships with certain houshold items I thing we all know what the clipper resembles most ;p

Little change of topic here (i'm still new) what is the fastest way to progress these ranks? since PP has been anounced i'm concerned i won't have it too easy to gain ranks on both sides once it's introduced. i know about the rank ascension missions but they aren't always available.. what to do to unlock them? I'm allied with empire and fedderation and friendly with the alliance but my ranks are only serf and cadet.

Here's what I did.

1) if you don't have one...get a type 6 and upgrade it's FSD and whatever else you can afford (PP, PD, Thrusters.. etc)
2) Find a Agriculture planet and buy 10 of each food (Algea, Fruit & veggies, coffee..etc)
3) Visit each of the neighboring systems that are non-agricultural (industrial, refinery, extraction, high tech). Also, buy some agri-medicines and food cartridges when you see them. There are a few missions for these as well.
4) Look for "Need food" missions from minor factions that are ONLY aligned with the major faction you want to rank up in. Take the mission, give food, move to the next star.
5) Pick up courier missions as well. They are quick one way trips and no cargo space needed. Again, never take a mission from a minor faction that doesn't have the symbol of the major faction (Empire, Federation, Alliance) by their name.
6) Forget any combat missions. They are a huge time sink. Stay with food and couriers.

Do this until you get a Naval Progression Opportunity mission. Do that mission and move about 30-50 LY's away, find another agriculture planet and start over. The reason for this move is because to keep your Major faction rep steadily rising you will "cap out" on rep with local minor factions and you must find new minor factions to raise your rep with. I got to Baron in probably 5 days of playing. I would likely have cut this down a lot if I knew this system going in rather than figuring it out myself.

Happy faction grinding:D

Federation, to fight the aristocrat slavers and warlords. The Federation is flawed, but the Empire is worse.

The Alliance has some virtue, but where is their navy? A strong navy is needed to resist the Empire.

"Federation, we are the lesser evil"

Thanks anyway i will do it as you said. (with the t6)

Is the Empire bad? I don't know. DB compared Imperial Slavery to signing up for the army which I presume to mean is that, while its not exactly fun, its not totally horrid. Maybe.

The key similarity is that both are voluntary (excluding conscripted armies; that is more like unregulated slavery). You might have a horrible time either as a soldier or as an Imperial slave, or you might enjoy and benefit from the experience. You might have signed up because it was the least bad option, but you DID sign up. An oft-cited reason for signing up as an Imperial slave is the importance, in Imperial society, of honour. Signing away your freedom for reasons of honour ... it's basically the plot of Beau Geste :)

I like some degree of amiguity and hope they don't make one side or the other totally evil.

My commander rationalizes away the things he doesn't like. "Imperial Slavery, well yes I suppose in an ideal world we wouldn't have it. All right, its just plain bad, but those slaves I transported... well, I just carried them, its not like I was the one forcing them into it. So its okay. Right... right... right....?"

That rationalisation implies that someone DID force them, but if you are carrying humans who have been forced into servitude, they are unregulated (i.e. not Imperial) slaves and as illegal in the Empire as anywhere else.

The ambiguity you're looking for is present in the comparison of being down on your luck as a citizen of the Federation vs as an Imperial subject. Be a member of the Federation's underclass grinding in some dead-end job (or maybe homeless and begging), or be an Imperial slave working for an owner who is legally and honour bound to take a certain degree of care of you? Economies that rely on human-replacing machines, or on indentured humans? Which is better? These are a couple of the philosophical differences between the two main powers.

Hey uhm... I did what you said ... now i got an invitation to go to a certain system to receive a comuniqué. But when i get there, nothing special happens.. I didn't find any special mission on any of the stations. Whats up with that? how do i progress?

Federation vs empire...

Which side of the skat cake would you like?

I chose empire for RP reasons. I can atleast kill a power hungry, vain and tyrannical leader (not that I would, bask in his greatness). Not a whole lot you can do to combat a congamorant of super rich Super large and high tech corporations that treat people like a resource to be exsploited,

The permit missions are broken, there is no communique to receive or whatever.

Just keep building rep and eventually a new mission will come along (though you will see permit missions keep appearing as 'available but unobtainable' - again, broken).
