Imperial Courier

We'll see, but as a dedicated courier I would expect it to be the fastest ship with HUGE (possibly the largest) jump range, nimble handling, small cargo, lightly armed and lightly armored. I would probably come back to the game (at last for a little while) if it met those and actual long range courier missions went along with it.

I want this so much. I also hope it won't be that big, at most as big as an Asp, preferrably closer to the Cobra. And then use it as a long range courier (thank you Captain Obvious) and explorer. I've not yet been to the galactic core myself, with this baby I would like to do that. :)

Judging by the cockpit screenshot (?) it looks pretty small, doesn't it? I mean, where other ships got lots of space in the cockpit the cockpit of the courier looks like there are just a few inches between the pilots helmet and the canopy. Definitely looking forward to to flying the clippers smaller cousin ;)

Speaking of the Courier and Gutamaya and the like
Does this seem to make sense, thoughts?

Tier/ManufacturerCore DynamicsGutamaya
Light shipEagle Mk II (Cold War Era)Hunter
MediumVultureCourier
LargeDropship - Rank LockedClipper (Trader in game files?) - Rank Locked
Pocket CaptialCorvette - Rank Locked Cutter - Rank Locked

I note the Eagle Mk.II as Cold War era as it has since been replaced by the F63 Condor
The Imperial Cold War Era Counterpart would either be the Eagle Mk.III or the Ospery but neither appear in the game files but the hunter does, or did at least last time I looked.

We need a dedicated Explorer ship. Traders have dedicated ships as do combat pilots. We explorers have the Asp which is good but is really more of a multi-role craft. Maybe this is it?

Everytime the forums start to grate on my nerves, I pop into this thread and marvel at that cockpit...

No, a 50Ly explorer that doesn't need to multi-role and can reach the out-of-the-way (range) places. Pedantic much?

I really want to know why the clipper doesn't have seats nearly as fancy. It is the second time I've seen those seats in concept art. I can't even find that other image anymore. I remember they showed it off right when gamma came out. Will the clipper get seats like that?

Clipper_cockpit.jpg

actually nvm I found the picture. But really, the cockpit doesn't look nearly as nice as the concept art so I don't expect this ship to be much different. The clipper has a luxurious feel, but the stock chair for every ship with identical throttle and joystick doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I hope this new ship follows the concept art more closely and sticks to the same color scheme. (The clipper isn't nearly as white and blue in-game, which makes me a bit sad but I still love it)

It doesn't really change anything but for a game centered around the concept of immersion, seeing the same chair, and UI color in every ship is a little distracting. Is it really that hard to set up the color slide bar for the UI, add a new color skin for the joysticks, and change the 3d model of the seats?

Where is the horde of players arguing about what stats it will have, how much it will cost, how great/ugly the design is etc.? Everyone to busy complaining about "nerfs"? :p

There's imperial in the name. It's a given that anything with imperial in its name is gonna look ridiculously awesome :p

Silly though that just popped into my head...

...that the chair is actually the pilot's favourite chair, which gets transferred from ship to ship, because it's very very comfy. Hence why it's always the same.

(Next to appear in the ED cash ship: different chair types! Cloth, leather, you name it!)

The Imperial Courier was in both Frontier games (Elite 2 and 3). It had decent jump range for it's mass, was fast for its size and could carry a lot of weapons and shielding. It was multirole like the Cobra or Asp. It had less cargo and fitting capacity than the Imperial Trader (which in this one is equivalent to the Imperial Clipper) but was much faster and had better FTL ranges.

I suspect that it'll be a multirole ship again in this one, perhaps with some ability to do specialized tasks when they come out.

Gecko is garbage man, the only Elite 1 ship missing from this one with any class is the Krait.
I loved the Courier in Frontier! Its jumprange in the stock version actually was just "okayish", better than the Trader (which had a lousy jump range), and the engine could NOT be removed. However, it was possible to get your engine destroyed (which turned it into a LOT of scrap, which you'd have to pay to get rid of, or dump it in space and hope nobody noticed), and then you could upgrade the engine. Ideally, you'd upgrade it one size up into the military version, which took about as much space as the regular engine, but gave it a much better jump range. Just the part of getting your engine destroyed, but not your ship, was rather tricky. Ideally, you'd make a misjump (destroying your engine), and end up relatively close to a safe star system that had the right engine for sale.
