Important Change At Inara- Legacy Left Behind For Now

From the front page at Inara:

"The game update 14 is here. As announced earlier, Inara now supports the Live galaxy version only (so Odyssey and Horizons 4.0) and that includes not just galaxy data, but also commanders data. For that reason, all imported game data, Inara API updates, etc. should be reflecting just the Live game version. I will however take a look at the option to support Legacy commander data for console players (as it requires multiple code changes and extensive testing, it may take some time).

Also, there are new game features that I didn't know of in advance and will need to be handled on Inara properly. I am currently working on implementing these and they will be there in the coming hours and days (or are there already, as the situation is quite dynamic)."

This will have a tremendous effect on whether players elect to keep playing Legacy/3.8.

Any information on EDDN, EDSM, etc would be appreciated.

That applies to EDSM as well - no 3.8 support (Console + PCs playing 3.8 - sorry Old Duck)

Our tools (EDD/EDMC etc) will updated soon to stop sending data to EDSM/Inara when your playing 3.8.

Doubling up the data we have to store on our new Star Trek Parallel universe system is not going to happen in practice.

The websites are all done as a free service, server space costs money which is paid for by us (& our patreons), and it would take more time and effort to support two universes.

Ps.

EDD will be supporting both universes - keeping them separate. Use it for engineering etc. ;-)

Note that EDDN will still relay messages for 3.8, so if any Legacy players want to build their own EDDB-like web pages and filter to just the Legacy messages for it, that will still be possible. My Census project code is open source if you want to look through that for examples of how to read EDDN, and there are other open-source ones out there as well.

That said, at the moment there really aren't many Legacy messages. Looking at the stats for one of my EDDN listeners since Wednesday morning:
- ~31000 Live
- ~16000 unknown version (upgrade your EDMC/EDDiscovery)
- 87 (eighty-seven) Legacy
so you might not have all that much data to work with just now, depending on how those "unknown" segments are distributed once upgraded.

As far as I can tell, the next week or so will determine for third party services which side to support. As RobbyP noted, it's hard to keep track of TWO galaxies...

Ian's numbers seem to favor Live, at the moment.

Just a FYI: it seems that eddb.io doesn't distinguish between Live and Legacy yet.

I use the latest version of EDiscovery (16.0.2.0), it's properly set up with one live CMDR and the corresponding legacy CMDR. I've set up the legacy CMDR to send information to EDDN, EDAstro and IGAU. Now, EDD does correctly distinguish between the two CMDRs, of course, and nothing on Inara and EDSM is updated when I fly in Legacy, like it should be.

However, I just docked at a station in Legacy, and while the market data on Inara is not updated, the market data on eddb.io is. You can see the differences between the update times here:
https://eddb.io/station/7739 (a few minutes ago = that was me)
https://inara.cz/elite/station/20784/ (23 November)
