Now if Frontier had announced that The New Era had not proved technically possible and Elite: Dangerous was being shut down in 6 months time, that would have been plausible.

Disappointed that while Frontier are prepared to support CarrierAdminOS (surely a minority OS) they are still ignoring macOS.

Even CarrierAdminOS supports DirectX. If FDev ever switch to the Vulkan API, then we could get macOS support again.

Would Vulkan work with Metal? Is that the Vulkan MK thing?
I'm confused. I thought Metal was the Apple way forward exclusively.

Even CarrierAdminOS supports DirectX. If FDev ever switch to the Vulkan API, then we could get macOS support again.

I believe Apple were part of the Vulkan consortium, but dropped out and then went down the Metal route.

First Rollercoaster Tycoon 3, now Planet Coaster with macOS support. The future is Apple shaped!

Frontier have sub-contracted to macOS porting specialists, Aspyr, who know how Metal works. That was a suggestion way back in the day for the ED macOS client, but that suggestion, as indeed with all other macOS related suggestions, was met with stony silence.

Well, I hope for you and your fellow Mac enthusiasts that Aspyr will be able to port Elite Dangerous + DLC to Metal (If FDev lets them). Not because I'm a particular fan of Apple products (I'm not), but it will finally put an end to these "complain" threads by all the Mac users.

If they ever do a Mac client (again), I might even be tempted off my 2009 apple hardware, maybe hold out for a 2nd gen M1 mac- they're raising a few eyebrows apparently
