Improve VR/Game usability

Can we please add some feature for finding the nearest module / ship / resource? It says a lot when a player has to "google" and use some website to find where they can buy a ship, etc. For VR users this is specially bad, since you have to take the headset off, and practically breaks any immersion in the game.

Thanks

In the galaxy map third tab along I think. Select filter map by “economy” and highlight “high tech”. Plus you can filter the population for highest numbers.
its at those locations in those stations that will yield the best equipment.

So, I have to filter by "economy" and "high tech" to be able to find stuff... why not have something on the outfitting screen that shows whether the module is available or not and where you can find it... I have not seen much in game content on where to do stuff. If I wanted to buy a Cobra, I would have to some how guess where to go and hope that they sell the ship.

How low on the list is this, and yet ED is suppost to be VR from the outset.

The more you play the game, the more you learn about what ships can be bought where. As Flimley said, high population high tech systems are your best bet for ships and kit. As you are playing the game, just bookmark interesting systems & shipyards in the galaxy map. I play in VR and have no problems finding what I want, but I have been playing for 3 years...

For me, a lot of the fun of this game is figuring out where to go and what to do. It's not like a lot of other games out there that have big shiny arrows telling you what direction to take. I only found a crashed Thargoid ship the other day, and they've been around for months!

If you're on the Rift, the new Dash is a big help when it comes to viewing EDDB or Coriolis while in the comfort of your cockpit.

And if you are on Vive you can reposition and resize the steam desktop to be very usable.

Did 260ish jumps to Colonia via the neutron highway, visited my browser between almost all of those jumps to copy the next system name, took just over 7 hours in which i only took my HMD off for two bathroom breaks and lunch.

Using a browser in VR, especially during playing a seated title isnt AMAZING but it works well enough to get through alright.

No, you would somehow google "where are the best stations to buy a cobra?" before going in. If you want to maintain immersion, you would work within the games filters or just ask around within a live instance. If you really want to not break immersion in the game you're out of luck. Since ED isn't native VR it has a number of immersion breakers from the need to type into the galaxy map to the annoying random hand flexing. You just have to learn to live with what you got and work within it's limitations. There are immersion breakers in most VR situations, even when built from the ground up. The first time I hit the moving ceiling fan in The Climb comes to mind.

I've never had to rely on 3rd party sites to find what I need, or get decent trade routes. All the information you need is there. You just have to learn about what things can be found where. I've always found it amusing to read dedicated CG threads, for example, complaining about how all the nearby sources have dried up, when I can go into the galaxy map, filter it for economy type, and adjust the population range to find good sources within a jump of the CG.

Sites like EDDB.io may be a useful resource, especially if you're not in the game, but I prefer to rely on my own skills. I think its faster, more fun, and I don't have to panic if the 3rd party sites "go on strike." :p

I'm pretty sure that this is by design. Most of the game mechanics are designed around the idea that data travels fastest aboard ships, including version one of their economic sim. I just think that Frontier was unprepared for how creative players can be, especially when it comes to sharing data. The first trade route calculators appeared soon after trading was added in Alpha, and leveled the markets across the Alpha bubble. Frontier nerfed their economic simulation soon afterwards, and haven't restored it since.

Now you're getting it. All part of the fun.
