In a combat zone...what if I tried an eagle?

It takes me literally 5 seconds or less to bring down an Eagle with my Python's Beam Lasers. One sustained burst of about 3-4 seconds is usually all it takes, so I don't even bother powering up my Multi-Cannons. An Elite NPC pilot might add 1-2 seconds to that time. Doesn't give me too much faith in that ship's chances in a CZ, if the same ships I have dealt with are in there.

Might be fun to fly and avoid getting killed, but definitely not my idea of fun. ;)

The only time I see a heat problem with the Imp Eagle is when I fire off an SCB. But no heat problems when in battle firing a pulse laser and multi cannons at the same time. Maybe try upgrading the power plant and distributor?
When it was first put in it had a heat issue(NPC's would actually kill themselve flying them due to self inflicted heat damage) but it's since been fixed.

Is the reduction of maneuverability really that noticeable in the I-Eagle compared to the normal one? With A-Specked everything of course

I'm curious about this too. Never flown the Imperial version, but part of what makes the Eagle able to fight above its weight class is that it is so nimble it can dodge fire like a champ. Can the Imperial Eagle compete on that front? The Frontier specs say that it is less maneuverable, but the Frontier specs don't actually say anything (like actual pitch rate, etc).

At the very least IEagle has better straight line speed at cost of some kind of manuvering downgrade so it could run away easier.

The Eagle is my "I suck at fixed weapons and want to try to get better" ship. But it doesn't have a medium hardpoint, and I (personally) feel that you really need that turning speed if you're trying to line up fixed guns at close range.

I've got a cobra mark 3 and a trade fleet somewhere out in the galaxy god knows where it is now, but I'm in kunti at the station there, got an A speced viper with hull reinforcements (no shield boosters here :( ) and 4 pulse lasers, sparking up a million a go at the compromised nav beacon here to try and grab myself the FDL they've got in the showroom here

The viper ain't half bad i like it, shame the cockpit has 1 direction to see out of, but if you prefer open views an imperial eagle is basically a viper with an eagle cockpit?
