Like the title suggests, I think an in game forum communication system would be a great addition. We have things like Fuel rats, and the different expeditions, not to mention all the people trying to solve the alien ruins mysteries, and it's all in this strange meta in/out of the game universe at the same time. So the logical step would be to make one in universe. One accessible from the game itself. Either an extension of Galnet, or a Pilots Federation board. It would be best able to be accessed from the ship, even outside of a station.
This would allow for more interaction among players in an official capacity outside of instances, discuss conspiracy theories in world, arrange an exploration mission within the actual universe, and give a pilot something in game to do on a long trip to hutton orbital, and just in general flesh out the world. In addition to players posting, there could be joke spam messages about sales of ship parts at certain shipyards, alerts dire need of certain commodities, special urgent missions and allow for FDEV to implant stories where people are more likely to see them.
The only real difficulty will be how it is integrated between platforms since we can't interact directly.
