In-game overlay windows for the Oculus Rift

Do they exist? I bought a Rift solely to play Elite, but I want to overlay youtube or netflix into the game. I probably would have been better off buying a Vive where this seems to work universally, but didn't consider that something like a 3rd party overlay isn't, from my understanding, compatible with the Rift in most cases.

I've tried OpenVRDesktopDisplayPortal and Hello V, neither of which worked on my headset (but did on a friends Vive). Hello V supposedly does work if launched through the Rift Store, but I don't want to lose access to steam chat and the steam overlay either. Does anyone know to get these programs working?

have been using V with no problem watching youtube vids in the rift. I just downloaded and installed and then it worked in elite. Does it show the litte circle up over you after you double tap the HMD or isn't it running at all in elite?

*Edit
Sorry didn't see you only want to play the game through steamVR, then you're right, it doesn't work as far as I know

Using hello V with no problems (besides it being a beta). Not on a steam installation.

Hope they sort Netflix out

I got that working at one point in my rift, it hurt fps a bit, but it was pretty cool having a little window in the cockpit playing star trek. I havn't tried it for a long time and have no idea if it even works anymore... im going to try it out right now. Brb...

Yep, still works! Quick trick to get the playback to be more than 8fps is to actually scale down the physical chrome window. Also, to even get netflix to work with it if you are using chrome, is to go into your chrome settings, click advanced, and turn off hardware acceleration. I've got it playing back nice and smooth now.
I know i know, pics or it didn't happen.

Just fiddle around with the ui sliders of the openVRdesktop while in elite to position the netflix window where it isn't intrusive, or covering any other window. There is even alpha settings for the window so you can see through it a little bit.

P.s. If i remember right i had to install reVive to get this to work... i could be wrong though. Try it without and see if it works. If not, install revive and try again. If you go into steam and click the VR button next to your wallet/name, that will take you out of the Oculus lounge and stick you in the Steam... lounge... and that is where you get openVRdesktop working
