In-game Server Shutdown Warnings

what is up with a 1 minuet warning? I just got booted as i was coming out of hyperspace, more than likely i will end up faceplanting into a sun and lose my ship. What happened to giving fair warning to players before shutting off the servers. FDev got a lot to learn when it comes to running live servers.

There was warnings.. I got them 30 min before shutdown and again 10 min before shutdown

I only saw a 1 minute warning. I must have been alt tabbed out of the game when the other warnings happened. That is completely ridiculous that they only give a 30, 10, and 1 minute warning. Every other live service game I've played always gelive more than ample warning, way more than 3. And it's always in your face in big bold words. Not simple little white text that flashes in the bottom right hand corner of the screen for all of 3 seconds and then disappears. Very bad form on F Dev's part.

well we all should know by now there is the normal down time on thursdays. And I think the warnings ar emore than enough to be honest.. They even come in comms panel

Being DC'd after a hyperspace jump just sets you out of supercruise anyway, so there's not a likely chance you suffered any great peril.

I've missed a few warnings too but if I'm playing, I usually see it. I'm not sure what else you could expect, unless you wanted a big, large, annoying red countdown that was permanent on the screen counting down to server downtime each and every thursday.

I was unaware of the weekly maintenance time. I just came back to the game a while ago and I haven't been on at the time of the maintenance until now.

Regardless of any of that, new and returning players are not aware of this and it should be much more clear and obvious that the servers are going down.

Hi!
Agree on that, as a former long term WorldOfWarcraf-Player, returning to ED I was astonished to read "Server in Maintenance". And that is the worse... I can not see any notifications, when and how long this Maintenance will take. In WoW the Login-Client mention every Maintenance-Time even the Emergency-Ones ...

Shouldnt be so difficult to implement this in the Launcher

Cheers

P.S. Ahh... after the timeout and the Game opens the is the message... well.. not the customer-friendly way, but at least there seems to be a time mentioned the maintenance will take :)

Yep I absolutely agree with you. This game has been live for 10 freaking years at this point. It's not that difficult to keep your players informed of what is going on with the servers. Pure laziness on thier part for not having these types of systems in place for thier player base. It's 2025 for goodness sake. Get with the times FDev...

Well you are on the forums, there is posts here about the weakly downtime. And if you really want a big red flashing countdown on you screen I hope theyy only give it to you. If you miss the messages ingame telling you the servers are going down it cant be on them... They are there and they are pretty darn obvius. enough said it there and its more than enough warnings ingame.

But again this thursday maintenance has been going on for years now.. same time same day. Its the weekly tick turn point. Its there every week and the down time can be all from 20 mins and up.. Depending on what they have to do besides the weekly background simulation tick.
But I would surgest you seach for the post in here and go read it. Then you know for future

You get warnings at 30 mins, 15 mins, 10 mins, 5 mins, 1 min.

How many more warnings do you want?

Also, after logging back in, your ship will be in a safe location.
With the amount of time players spend alt tabbed out of the game in Inara and several other 3rd party tools while playing the game, it would be nice for it to stay in the screen for more that 3 seconds and would also be nice if it flashed in bold words across the middle of the screen so it can actually be seen. I barley caught the 1 minuet message as it was disappearing from my screen. All I'm saying is just because the game is 10 years old, that doesn't mean it needs to stay in the dark ages. These types of things are easily implemented to give better warnings to the players. It wouldn't be that difficult to update the system to somethimg a bit more modern.

Thank you for letting me know about my ship being safe. I do appreciate that.

I just dont see how this isnt enough.

If its Thursday morning, UK time, and you have been alt-tabbed, just check your message log, like Nighthawk shows, it does persist.

Now, don't get me wrong, a permanent message on-screen, not the chat log, would be an improvement, especially for new players who don't yet know about the weekly update, its not something you don't learn about quickly.

Nope, that's not at all what happens.
If you do crash in to a star, you will be e-dropped and take a little damage. You can then point away from it and get back out, where you may take a little heat damage.
But you won't crash in to the star after you log back in. You will be in normal space traveling 0 m/s.

I appreciate all the feedback from everyone. Especially the statements regarding the safety of my ship. It's an anaconda fully loaded with 450 tons of materials. And a $12 million insurance rebuy.

I was horribly surprised at how it all happened to me last night. I'm in the US and it was midnight when it happened. I was tired, which i know was my first mistake, (dont fly tired)

I honestly did not see any of the other warnings, nor was I aware that those warnings were permanently posted in the chat log. I do know moving forward and I will keep an eye out for this to happen next week.

My only argument is th at it would just be a better practice for FDev to find an improved and more modern way to post this information for those of us who are not as informed as long time players.

All live service game that I have played over the last 20 years have always flashed this information in big, bold, and bright colors across the middle of the screen for a good 10 seconds. Is it annoying? Yes. Is it effective? Absolutely. IMHO I believe this system in particular needs to become more current, and less archaic, with an updated system, that reduces surprises like this moving forward.

Again, thank you all for your feedback. o7 commanders.
