The long story short is that back in a time our Squadron had a switch into a separate but related branch from the main Squadron (as we weren't interested into platform dividing). Now we got control over the PMF along with the name (on INARA) and blessings of the guy who came out with faction introduction into Elite Dangerous (along with the current leader). The only thing remaining with the branch naming scheme is the Squadron. However, around few month back when we still were a separate Squadron supporting PMF, our friend died in a fatal accident and we had been keeping his CMDR in Squadron in order to honor the memory of him.
The crux of the matter is that we cannot dissolve the Squadron, because we'd lose that piece of him which still remains with us - especially if there's no way to put a memorial beacon around our home system.
Is there any possibility that Frontier Development can alter the Squadron in-game in such a case? We can provide all the evidence to confirm the request is legitimate.
