Newcomer / Intro Inara and importing data

I've created an account an Inara, installed E:D Market Connector, created an API key in Inara and configured this in E:D Market Connector. I can now see in Inara what my current station is, but I cannot see my ship list or my current ranks. This makes me believe that the synchronization just works for new stuff but not for the past. Is this correct?

Also, I can see that Inara offers me to "Import Game Data", but for this I'd also have to connect via Frontier/Steam/Epic. Since I've already configured E:D Market Connector, I'm wondering whether this is just an alternative to get data imported into Inara?

I was kinda hoping to be able to upload the current E:D logs from my local machine, so Inara would also import the history? (like current ranks etc). But that doesn't seem to be the case?

EDMC will handle real-time data, but you still need to Import Game Data, and set it to auto-load, to get everything into Inara.

Also, you could use EDDiscovery which does an auto import if you provide the API key. Note that data imports, via EDD or by clicking the button in Inara are not real time and there may be a delay in getting the data up-to-date.

It was only after plugging into Inara yesterday that I realised all my ship names actually use random capitalisation. In-game everything shows as capital letters.

My first instinct was to use the opportunity to check for OCD by seeing how long it takes until I go back and rename every ship while Caps Lock is on. 20 hours so far and still just a niggle, perhaps I'm chiller than I thought.

Way back when (can't remember) FDEV made a change to overcome some bug - the change involved making all ship names upper-case no matter what you typed-in. (The only exception was your initial freewinder.) It really annoyed the bejezus out of me. They changed it now and I spent ages renaming all my ships to Title Case from UPPER CASE.
