Incentive for hauling in Open Play

I was talking about this with a friend, as I play in open mode and he doesn't (his just hauling cargo) and we were thinking of ways to make Open mode more desirable for haulers, and he said if their was a bonus to trading like 10-20% in Open mode he would do it over solo.

Should there be an incentive for traders to use Open mode? do you like the percentage idea, if not do you have a good idea?

the idea came up here quite a lot.
i think it would punish the solo players in that way.

if he is afraid of getting attacked by players just tell him that you can leave the game instantly when you get attacked and be save. so there is no risk in playing open as you can vanish into offline :D

My question is, what is this fascination with trying to get people to play "open" if they dont want to or care to? It benifits no one but those that want people in open . The rest of us dont care.

I hear there is an AI upgrade in open play. Thats my incentive.

youre already getting an awesome bonus hauling in open - the spine tingling, nerve wracking horror that you could be interdicted and turned to space dust by a player - certainly keeps my eyes pinned to the scanner in supercruise

The more the merrier.

Its a classic network effect.

Also for me its curiosity. I really cant relate to why one would choose to play solo. Utterly baffles me.

There is nothing against hauling cargo in Open mode. Just get away from the 'core' systems and it is just like being in Solo. I'm way over on the far side of Empire space and haven't seen another player since launch. Trading is good, mining is good and unexplored space is right on my doorstep.

Yes there should be an incentive to haul in open play: make open play a separate character / bank account.

There, fixed. As long as FD allows this transfer of assets to persist (which probably means forever) the last thing we need is for the game to unbalance things further than they already are when it comes to professions and money making.

I played Gamma mostly in solo mode but then decided to try open... been in open ever since :)

I have made some good friends in the game and we all talk quite often. Personally, I'm very glad I switched to open :)

I dont play solo either I play with a load of mates in private group. I have the advantage of not having to wait for a landing pad or being bumped by pilots who cant fly straight :)

I personally play in open mode, I have yet to see a hostile player (I'm in Australia though) I do enjoy seeing other commanders going about their business, is nice to see someone out in the middle of nowhere and wonder what they are up to. it's also nice to hail people and have a chat.

Theres many reasons to have people playing in open mode. Immersion is nice.

I think haulers should be able to hire protection. You see the Funeral ships and Wedding parties as groups of 3-5 craft, things like this.

The other suggestion (made before) is to enable a "call for help" where the police are likely to turn up, or other players.

There doesn't need to be an artificial incentive IMO. The incentive is in what you desire from the game.

Your own playground = solo

Playing with others = Open

I trade in Open as that's what I want to do, anyone that thinks incentives are required simply doesn't understand that other people play the game differently to them. I see a lot of that.;)

I play open all the time. I honestly don't see any grief that should make one want to play solo. Human interaction is so slim in open anyway..

but isn't that exactly the sort of behaviour that we don't want. I really think that they have made a mistake allowing people to cheat by swaping between open and bubble wrap modes.

Just leave it as it is.
People can make there own choice on a level playing field, personally i chose to play in a large PvE group because i like to see fellow haulers occasionally. But i have no problem with people playing either on their own, or with random players.
The best thing for all of us is we all share the same persistant game world, so everyone (regardless of what mode they choose) has an effect on your game.
As for incentives only for online mode....
How would you react to people asking for incentives to play solo? or group?

The Solo Players Shuld be punished, it should not affect the open worl glaxy it should not be able to be use to amass great weath and then be able to bring that over to open play, solo mode should not even be a thing and will ruin this game

Perhaps there could be some sort of a bonus/incentive to traders to take goods to/from Anarchy systems - it would make sense that those systems markets are prepared to offer a little extra to get their trading routes working - in theory prices should be lower sell/higher buy anyway because not many traders risk going there.

That might encourage open traders to go where the pirates are - and the same rationale could work in solo/private groups too.
