Incoming Message for: Isinona

I didn’t watch many of Isinona’s films much purely because I tended to watch that kind of thing whilst pottering about in game and couldn’t keep up with all of the text. Then went VR and stopped watching anything whilst playing altogether.

Then I watched one on TV one night and was hooked.

The simple structure and storytelling are excellent, the flying clearly extremely impressive but for me it’s his role playing in Open that hooks me. No rebuys, small and medium ships, no salvage or cargo too small for a little bit of profit, a real understanding of the game and no apparent interest in meta builds or meta play. It just makes the videos stand out from the crowd to my eyes. One of my favourites was watching him fly FA Off around a Coriolis station whilst dodging the intense attention of Harry Potter and Chums whilst he thought about how to escape and continue with his self imposed mission. I’ve probably learned more from Isinona’s videos than anyone else’s* ..... and there’s plenty of excellent videos, clips and tutorials from others out there to choose from.

I won’t demand more videos or films of a certain thing, just look forward to when a few more are uploaded. He says with his fingers crossed.🤞

*Though FA Off isn’t one of them unfortunately

in the first half of his last video, i find it quite telling that not even isinona can make an engaging story about ... engineering. boring, really, could be any random 'get rich' tutorial. it spices up considerably at the end when he gets back to his thing: sneaky and witty pvp with a touch.

The first time I ran across Isinona was some years ago, back before Engineering was even in the game.

I remember watching him zip along near the surface of a planet, soaring over a little hill and right past a small installation. As he passed, he turned his ship and watched the installation go by, while continuing to fly in the original direction (backwards, basically). And he did it so naturally, it looked easy and simple. I watched a few more of his videos, just enjoying his complete mastery of FAOFF flying, as well as his storytelling. He's become a bit of a hero to me.

I will never be able to fly like that, but it thrills me to watch someone who can.

I love Isinona's vids and I've watched them all, many of them more than once honestly. He is not only a great storyteller but he's very entertaining to watch play the game. In my opinion he is the definition of Elite emergent gameplay, simply taking underwhelming missions doing mundane things but having just crazy stuff happen while doing them. I often feel like I'm playing Elite the wrong way after watching a vid of his, LOL.

I've often thought I'd like to do some exploration vids in his style, but I fear they'd just be boring and not worth making. I did make this little vid about a disaster I had on the DECE though, and I used his style as a template to follow of sorts:

Nothing against any content creators, but they're just not my thing. I've watched a few of The Pilot's ship-specific videos, because they're short and (mostly) to the point, which is about all the time I'm really willing to put into watching videos. I'd rather be playing than watching. I also always skip all ads, so I'm doing anyone any favors - but that's another story for another time.

Sorry, I forgot to file my flight plan with Isinona. The last series was such a great success following me around all over.

Not sure how my foibles in a CZ would work for the next installment tho.

His videos are quite entertaining when they involve player interaction... But he's moved towards NPC related things more recently - not as interesting IMO. I'm guessing this was down to the required engineer grind for having any chance against other players.
