Inconsistent experience is killing the game for me.

@jasonbarron if it's a bug, then certainly. If it's an engineered ship as @Chorda mentioned it might be, then it's a balancing issue. If only because Elite missions should be way harder if this is what Competent provides.
@photomanck absolutely, again the issue may lie in that I'm spending way too much time in the game and minor problems are much more of a nuisance. But this does seem absolutely disconnected from the rest of the experience I've had with this game.

So yeah I was venting hard when I wrote that, some things may have an unrequited bitterness to them.
Point still stands, I feel like there is an issue of balance if a competent mission is harder than an elite mission.
Thanks for helping me figure this stuff out and to calm down.

As I recall, the Low Intensity CZ's of old were also considered much harder than the High Intensity CZ's....

I haven't CZ'd in close to two years, but I do remember it was a thing. Might still be a thing.

Test it again a few times and come back with more data. If it happens often, it's worth exploring. If it doesn't, it's kind of a non problem.

@IndigoWyrd I feel like CZs right now are pretty flat on their difficulty save a few key elements. I'm no expert on CZs at all but mid and high intensity seem to almost invariably have a wing of engineered spec ops or some other stronger targets, and it seems like shield and hull health go up with the intensity. I've had plenty of fun in those but I'm still working on making a ship that's perfect for CZs.
@jasonbarron will do for sure, and open either a ticket or another thread with a more formal analysis.

@askavir Yep. But predictability and consistency are two different things. I'm not expecting to know the specs of the ship I'm hunting prior to direct contact, nor am I expecting that a lower ranked target should be a cakewalk. I even went into the signal source going "that's a lot of security, this is gonna be fun". What irked me about this tbh is that ALL Elite wetwork missions I've done prior to that Competent mission, were easier.

@babelfisch his or mine? It's all in the original post but to clarify, I was riding my Mamba and my target was an FDL. Previous targets of this type of mission usually are either FDLs if military targets and Orcas most of the time if the target is a politician or another civilian type. There's some variance to this but it's rare.

Strict PvE players just kill me. While out farming missions if I ran into an NPC scenario in my murdermobile that could even be slightly considered challenging I'd be writing an open letter THANKING fdev for this nearly unique occurrence, not complaining about it.

Would you share your murdermobile? (Obviously, if not, that's totally fine! ;) )

I am currently working hard to improve my aim with rail guns. Packed four on my Furry Lance (high-capacity...I need all the ammo I can get...), and I'm (slowly!) getting SOMEWHAT better.

I thought the FDL was one of the other targets. Well in that case you should probably just kill a few FDLs and notice how long it takes. If it takes considerably less time it probably was a bug.

Could be a bug. Could be FDEV's sense of humour. I mean, military intelligence has often proven false in the past, and I kinda doubt this is not going to happen in the future.

As such, I'd take it as a refreshing experience. (Speaking of which, I've had missions labelled "Elite" which were, IMO, too easy...which says a lot, 'cause I'm likely the worst pilot and gunner in the universe. Just sayin'.)

@babelfisch Yeah that's exactly the reason I made this post, I've never had a ship last so long against focused fire from this Mamba, and I've been riding on this one for a few months now. Been in RESs, CZs, bounty targets, done other wetwork targets (FDLs or otherwise), and the comparable ship i can think of is one of the heavily modified ones in CZs. And even those aren't as good as this one was. Taken Vettes faster than that FDL and i was focusing all fire on its broad side at short range.
Edit: missing a couple words.

@DDM_Reaper20 Yeah absolutely, gonna be way more careful from now on when taking missions lower than deadly.
Edit: I feel like this sounds sarcastic, but I mean it. Now I know better than to trust the intel on a mission to assassinate a military target that's in good standing with his faction.

@Kelster87 Going to try to reproduce the bug and come back with more data. I am sure I was on target though, his rank caught my eye on supercruise and i got the mission credit. I never attempt to kill system security in wetwork missions.

That may just be an extreme outlier on a bell-curve of possible target ship loadouts, but I'm all for variety in missions. Simple sounding tasks that occasionally turn into a fight for survival or death-or-glory missions that once in a while turn out to be 'I simply shot him' after all your ninja preparations. It would be disappointing, tedious even, if every mission turned out exactly as described and to a fixed formula. Occasional failure is needed to make the successes feel like an achievement.

@FrogsFriend Might be. It's not that big an issue, I was just mad. I'm not at all against variance, perhaps my issue is that there isn't enough variance in higher-end missions but this just felt disconnected.
