Inconsistent Internal Narrative

In fiction writing, there are three types of consistencies:

External Consistency - Consistency with the "real" world (science biology, etc.)
Internal Consistency - Following a universes "established" rules (think Magic, the Force, etc.)
Genre Consistency - Consistency with other, similar works of fiction

Elite, almost to the point of being adorably charming, faceplants on all three of these concepts.

Here are a couple fun examples:

How are you going to market yourself as a "luxury liner" and not include basic features like that?

A lot of SciFi is guilty of this one, it falls under the "working cell phones would ruin all movies" trope.

Docking modules should just be a toggle in the functions panel... it's silly to have them as a separate 1t module.

Anything larger than a medium ship should have a full NPC bridge crew that chatters at you through your comms panel (or voice acted, that'd be neat).

Someone on the Dev must really hate people who take too long to leave their parking spot.

And thank god they do.

Any other fun internal inconsistencies you can think of?

I liked this. [yesnod]

At the time, independent pilots were generally mistrusted, the itinerant nature of their profession giving rise to perceptions of irresponsibility. The Pilots Federation's strict code of conduct put an end to this, and over time a galaxy-wide respect for its members emerged.[5]

Right, and every pilot you meet has a "Rank" which they shouldn't have if they aren't part of the Pilot's Federation, since those are Pilot's Federation RANKS... hence...

Look, you made a post about inconsistent internal narrative but your post was inconsistent because it ignored the internal narrative. That's the funny part about it.
You seem fun.

Did the first page got filled and not a single mention of smellypresence?

Regardless what you think about FTL comms, smellypresence is a whole shebang just by itself.

Faction A will hire you to scan data points at Faction A's base. If you also destroy Faction A's skimmers, Faction A will pay you a bounty. Of course, if you linger for just 1 second too long within a given boundary at Faction A's base, Faction A will put a bounty on you (but still pay you anyway).

Which is an entirely different inconssitency than the one you incorrectly pointed out.
It could also easily explained by saying that pilot ranks also exist outside of the PF.

And spoilers. Because it is very important to keep the back end of your ship down, and maintain stability, when going fast... in space.

(Although that opens up the whole sound in space, lack of Newton's first law of motion (Hi Star Wars!), why do we need windows? Why are people flying ships in the first place when a 34th century computer might do it better)

When you buy a brand new right off the lot Viper Mk IV, the dashboard looks like it was pulled out of a junkyard, from a ship that crashed and burned after 10 years of very hard use and the first time it got cleaned was when the dealership tried to wipe off the grime about a month before you bought your brand spanking new top-of-the-line ship.

No one says whether the ship you buy is new or used. Look at the case of the Eagle, they are not being manufactured any more so any Eagle you buy is not new. So it may be that all the ships we buy may have been used at one time. Just saying.

Are YOU explaining it that way? Because if so, that's not an explanation, it's a handwave. lol.

You get me.

Regardless of the "git gud" component of docking modules, the fact that we have to manually park and also don't have any sort of autopilot is kinda hilarious.

I know I have personally gone through the possible remaining stock of eagles myself, so unless they are picking the leftover bits out of random asteroids or stars, or helpful pirates are bringing back the pieces to the MFG plant, I think we'd have run out of Eagles by now.

No different than those guys who put a huge wing on the back of their cars that "if" said car could ever reach a speed of say 150 mph the down force created by the win would crush the rear end of their pretty little Civic!

It is not about functionality, it is about how cool you thing you look! (There is a term for this but I refuse to use racially charged language about Asian people!)

When your ship is destroyed at, say, Sagittarius A* or Beagle point, you are immediately back in the Bubble (or Colonia, or whatever was the last base where you docked or where you started the game). Can escape pods travel at 60Kly per second? Then why are the escape pods in USSes just sitting there?

Well, they were manufactured for quite some time and parts are still being made for them so I suppose you could salvage a combat debris site and combine what you find there with purchasable parts and build yourself a fully functional Eagle. I would also think there is a whole lot these things spread out around the known galaxy.
