Incredibly Rare: Trinkets of a Hidden Fortune

Last night, at the compromised nav beacon in HR 706, I destroyed a wanted elite Type 10 and it dropped a very rare illicit item - Trinkets of a Hidden Fortune. It is the only item in my cargo hold, yet, when scanned NPCs do not attack me.

ED Wiki says that it is incredibly rare and gives a description of: "This container appears to hold an assorted collection of low-value trinkets, knick-knacks and statuettes. Such trinkets are generally used by superstitious pilots to try and win favour with the lady Fortuna. However, these particular knick-knacks have a much more valuable prize hidden within." I did also read that it may be associated with missions for The Dark Wheel minor faction. EDDB max sell price 1217cr at Arrhenius Enterprise in Ceti Sector ZE-A d74.

What little information there is available out there on this item is very obscure.

Is this worth keeping? What can I do with this? Has anyone completed a Dark Wheel mission using this item, if so, could you share information?

I remember finding those before, usually you could locate them in Unknown Signal Sights, but back then they were listed as 'Illegal Salvage' which meant you could only offload them at a Black Market somewhere at half the value, which means that it is basically worthless. Of course with all the new updates recently, values on things have changed as well as the 'Legal' and 'Illegal' tags on some space junk found at signal sights. I noticed before the last update, picking up 'Occupied Cryopods' were worth about 5 grand apiece at the Search and Rescue place, and black boxes and other junk you might get a pittance from. But since the update, Cryopods turned in are worth 20 to 25k, which is not a bad deal if you happen to pick up a few of them. And the 'Personal Effects' was also raised in value.

Personally, I would pick up Occupied escape pods or cryopods just on general principle, whether they were worth something or not, but now while I am out material hunting, I will routinely pick up not only the escape pods, but also the space wreckage and personal effects as well, if I have the cargo space for it.

That's right, they've been in the game a long time, and by all accounts pretty useless. I haven't seen any since version 1.8. Maybe there's a puzzle that we have yet to solve or they've come back with a new meaning.

Thorberg, do you know what faction the wanted T10 was? You might be able to look it up in your player log. It has been speculated that the "The Dark Wheel" faction in game is just a cover for the real dark wheel operating in the shadows. Knowing the faction might help other players snag one too.

Thorburg this may sound a bit daft but can you check your permits whilst you have that thing in the hold. I would like to rule something out.

Also whilst being extremely rare these things are also banned in some stations.

Cheers 07

Managed to "acquire" a few trinkets from ships jumping out of Founder's World by hanging around the bases and manifest scanned all the ships that show up. No visible effect on the permit systems shown in the system panel. Tried to get into Polaris like a month ago, and no dice. Maybe 1 in 20 or so ships carry it on average (in Founders World), but it varies a lot. I found then also on random ships in the Pleiades, and there was a report of someone finding them out near Jaque's. Biggest find so far, personally, was a ship hauling like 200 trinkets! I have been working several other ideas related to what trinkets do or are for, but so far nothing definitive.

On an unrelated note ships in Founder's World seems to carry a lot of Guardian stuff (orbs, relics etc) as well.

EDIT: With the drop of 3.1 Trinkets are alot harder to find. Infact I have not been able to find a single one in founder's world, or the surrounding systems. Scanned hundreds of ships and not a single trinket to be found. It is possible they are hiding somewhere else in the bubble, on a specific ship type, or only spawn in a certain system state (i.e. boom, famine, civil war etc). If you see one in 3.1 please post the details.

just found one Wori.....anarchy outbreak after farming mats at the nav beacon for about an hour.....but its marked as stolen after i scooped it? not sure if i want to hold on to this thing for an extended period of time lol

Ever found a random key in the street?
What does it unlock?
Treasure?
Good luck finding the lock it fits...

This is the situation with all these things.. (like AI relics and sap 8 cores)and if you ever do find the lock the random key you found does fit.. the chest will be empty or full of some mudane stuff you could have found or bought anywhere.

They are votive items, grave offerings of a sort, you should leave those things alone. Eternal beacons in the void for those blasted into smithereens. Some of them could be for deceased Dark Wheel members though, but that doesn't make it any less sacrilegious. You are a commander for Fortunas sake.

I remember I picked up a few several times in the past.

Their description is like all others : interesting fluff text resembling no in-game relevance. Just another Container with ASCII Text.

I'd recommend to either sell or Jettison it, otherwise it just bogs down Jumprange.

PS.
Compromised NAV Beacons are notorious for Pirate NPCs dropping RNG illicit rares. Nothing unusual.
So if that's your thing, you can over time collect plenty of various exotic rares there.

If there was the option to store cargo and commodities I would keep it. Since this is not a thing in the game (🤯), it just locks your cargo module to that current ship, reduce your jump range by 0.0x LY and his credits value is a joke just dump it.
