Indicator for reverse and forward

sometimes i get into reverse with assist off, and then hold my right bumper and boost and it boosts, but the throttle goes to 0, so i slow down quickly even though i am holding right bumper to go forward. if i knew i was in reverse i would know to keep tapping the right bumper to get into forward mode.
would be nice if i held the right bumper it would just go into forward mode, or if i double tap it it instantly goes full throttle to forward.

Also you need power for boost i have to press up on the Dpad to add pips to the eng, and i have to press B to boost. together B and UP on the Dpad deploy the cargo scoop which prevents me from boosting, and slows me down. that is the complete opposite of what i am trying to do when pressing B and up on the D pad. I have never used or needed a cargo scoop.

Would be great if we could set up a combat set up for the hotkeys because i never use half the buttons in combat like camera toggle, galaxy and system map, landing gear. those and a few more button options are useless in combat.

sdbags you are mistaken. if you have no pips in ENG your blue throttle zone will be on the bottom, and when you go in reverse it is on the top. i don't fly my ship with no pips in ENG i fly with all pips in ENG, and when you go in reverse it is EXACTLY the same, and it is impossible to know if the throttle is in the reverse, or forward.

Also if you use flight assist off and do any flip you go instantly into reverse, so no "flip" on the sped indicator happens you are just in reverse, and even if you boost and hold right bumper your throttle stays in reverse, and it is impossible to tell if the throttle is in reverse or forward.

I believe the orange 'lit up' part of the bar comes down from the top when you are in reverse, instead of coming up from the bottom. This is what they are referring to I believe.

You are right about the FAOff thing though.

Psycho Romeo if you put yourself in reverse and then boost can you tell that you are in reverse still?
You're not reversing if you're boosting.

However I do understand your issue, and I suffer from the same problem. I have my mouse wheel set to move the throttle in 16.6% increments, so I flick all the way forward/back and click the wheel three times to put myself in the blue zone again.

Is there a Zero Throttle button on the Xbone? On the PC, I have "X" set to it (don't remember if it's default), so boosting from reverse is Tab>X>Hold W to throttle up from zero. To be honest, I often end up in a direction I'm not expecting even when not boosting, so I zero throttle constantly anyway. Additionally, at lower engine pips, it's sometimes quicker to reach the blue area from zero rather than max throttle.

The number indicating speed should have a "minus" sign if you're in reverse.

What if it has a diamond shaped icon right of the numbers, so if the ^ glows, than it indicates you're drifting mostly up relative to yourself, > right, < left and V down.

So if you read:

- 156 ^>

Than it means you're in reverse and drifting up and to the right, total speed is 156.

I Think it is not his Problem. He wants a big "R" (Reverse Trust) or "F" (Forward Trust), because he got sometimes Problems in assist off mode. Hmm... does the trust mode changes if you are in assist off mode? so if you fly reverse then the trust is automatically switched to reverse? maybe there is an Option to Switch this off? I think i get the same behaviour on pc when playing with a Gamepad but i'm not sure anymore.

It depends on your input. For lever throttles, your engines are constantly outputting at x capacity, even when you hit FAOff.

However, for throttle button changers (such as mwheel up and mwheel down), your thrusters turn off completely when you hit the FAOff button. Trying to scroll the mouse wheel will cause your thrusters to burp at x capacity for a fraction of a second. If you were to flip over and hit FAOn, your current throttle setting would try to match your current heading, which is reverse.

This is disorienting. A lever throttle user will always know what their engines are doing based on the position of the stick. Button users must use our visual indicators, and the OP feels they are lacking.

This would be great if the information was set up like that.

correct you would be going forward, and your throttle would be in reverse. this slows you down faster, and in combat when i go in and out of flight assist off my throttle will be in reverse and i will boost and hold my right bumper to get out of reverse, but sometimes it stays in reverse, and it seems like it is at full forward throttle sometimes when it actually is partially in reverse.

Have you considered having your boost key also set your speed to +100%?
