Inexcusable lag on Xbox

Devs, when is lag on the Xbox going to be addressed? There is something wrong with the game and some kind of glitch that needs to get fixed. The lag is absolutely disgusting. I have Elite Dangerous on both Xbox and PC. I am in the exact same star system with both commanders. I'm physically on the exact same LAN as the PC and share the same gateway. I see no latency or bandwidth anomalies according to my telemetry. I have all the necessary ports forwarded on both Xbox and PC and NAT type on Xbox is open.

On Xbox, there is lag, on PC, there is none. Yes, the PC is more powerful than the Xbox, but why does the Xbox Elite Dangerous game play perfectly fine at times and then at other times the game totally goes to crap and has just absolutely sickening lag? It usually happens at systems populated with many other commanders and fleet carriers. I have played a lot and seems to correlate when fleet carriers are inbound and a jump is imminent. Many times what will happen is that I try to low wake and then I'm stuck and I have to force close the game and restart. This also does happen on PC but happens MUCH less. Something else that will trigger this revolting lag is to simply look at the Navigation Panel while at a highly populated and busy system.

Fix your game!!!

It's probably due to Fleet Carriers. There have been several posts regarding this but nothing will likely happen

Probably cos the OG xbox is now a dying breed, and the issues described are very much reduced on the Series S/X.

Also, you may not have heard but there is another major expansion coming "soon" it would be unlikely that any major development effort will go into the current version, especially since it would mean a partial rewrite of odyssey.

I don't know if ED is running that much smoother on a series X compered to my One X but I definitely want one.
I just don't want to fork out 1000+ euros to a scalper in order to get me one.
I hope MS will soon be able to restock the normal selling points.

I got one from a retailer and I must say the game runs very smooth and I haven't experienced any stutter or lag yet.

It runs buttery smooth on the Series S, there are no real graphical upgrades but a decent (and locked) frame rate upgrade. Also, all the menus, maps, everything is much, much snappier and any lag is virtually eliminated. That's on backwards compatible mode too.

I never pre-order stuff but somehow I wish I did pre-order a Series X now.
Who knows how long it'll take for stock to be replenished.

It's good to know ED benefits from the Series X's speed increasement.
ED isn't the only game I want it for though MSFS 2020 will be released this summer only for the new consoles so it became a no brainer for me now.

I have to say it has been awful from september to late november... since the first couple of weeks I've noticed the game performance improved on both consoles (standard and the One X) at least not having constant lag/stuttering on every situation. But yes, it does still have lag issues with crowded systems / instances (CGs, too many fleet carriers in same system).

More over, we've noticed lag spikes linked to XBOX live chat... i.e. when some one joins or leaves the group. If that happens when some one is waking, there's a high chance of being stuck in the wake tunnel.

PC is being only affected by fighter (SLFs) lag (so far, to my experience).

Now that you mention lag spikes when someone joins/leaves group during Xbox Live chat, it makes me think it may not be FDEV's fault at all. It could be some issue outside of Elite Dangerous. I stream my game to a laptop sometimes using the Xbox Console Companion. When I start noticing extremely bad lag in the game, I'll sometimes get a warning in the Xbox Console Companion that there are quality issues during the stream. It'll say "Network Quality Problems". I will get this lag whether I stream or not though. And during the same time I get this lag, it will not affect my PC, just the Xbox even though they are connected to the same 1 Gbps managed switch. Also, it seems that there are people who play the game with a brand new Xbox that don't have this problem. I may just try to completely reset my Xbox and see if that fixes it. I don't want to because it will erase all my previous visited stars, but if it fixes the problem that would be great and at least it could help to pinpoint the problem.

When you are in a system with really bad lag, if you try viewing the navigation panel, does that instantly make it worse? It does in my testing.

Well I did it, fully reset the Xbox to factory settings and removed everything. Only installing Elite since it's the only game I play anyway. I hope it solves the problem. I should know right away because I'm routinely going into heavily populated systems. When the lag occurs, it will occur during the jump whether I do it in a ship or fleet carrier, and once I'm in the system, the lag is pretty much unbearable. I hope this solves the problem!

Considering the issue started happening when Fleet carriers where introduced I doubt it's a the OG xbox that's the problem as ps4 have the same thing

I play on a Series S now (as well as pc), neither suffer any lag in most conditions (it's the internet so, anomolies happen) unlike my OG XB1 which had the habit of being laggy in most conditions with, or without carriers.

All I can go by is my own experience and with the only real change being that I went from OG XB1 to XBSX eliminating the lag I was experiencing says to me that the OG XB1 was most of the issue.

Yet I know people with the series x who have lag at CG systems with loads of FCs, there was about 6 forums posts about it asking fdev to change it to a permit locked system to keep FCs out.

Try visiting the damaged stations at Witch Head. Try visiting at least three of them and then let us know if you still don't see any lag.

Terrible and inconsistent lag here too. And it started last year this time with the FSS rework. They put in a "fix" late in that bugfix push that made things better but still worse than before they started fixing bugs. And then the FC patch made it worse yet again.

I've moved all of my gameplay to my freebie Epic commander, PC plays so much smoother. I only log into ED on the xbox to move the carrier around.
