Influencing a Controlling Faction...EXPORT or IMPORT?

Greetings everyone!

When it comes to do some trading for increasing the INF of the local Controlling Faction...i'm not sure what is better to do:

1. Exporting stuff the station has in supply

or

2. Importing stuff the station is in demand of

What is your experience?

Buying stuff from a faction controlled commodity market doesn't raise your standing so I've always assumed it's selling stuff to them which does :)

Hi

From what I understand, to increase the influence of the controlling faction, selling exploration data at the station helps as does cashing in bounties, doing missions for the faction all helps. Unsure about the commodity market trading.

If you want to influence another faction and undermine the controlling faction, then doing missions for them and trading using the black market all undermines the controlling faction. I'm currently trying it at the moment with a minor faction and have seen their influence rise from 3% to 9%, a long way to go, but I'm curious to see what happens.

Regular trade deffo increases your standing similar to bounties, exploration etc.

I used rare commodities at the start of my ps4 career to get alied with stations to increase mission payout ;) its just over one mil of profit to get friendly off the top of my head.

It's minor faction INF we are interested in, not personal REP, specifically what selling to or buying from a station does to the controlling faction's INF.

I thought any action you made that changed your rep with the controlling faction also changed their influence as well?

I could be wrong but that's the way I read it.

I know that the + symbols mean that REP + (or more) applies to your standing with the faction and INF + (or more) applies to the influence the faction has at that station (or in the system?) but is the controlling faction in charge of the commodities market?

I only ask because, if say, a pirate faction is the controlling faction, in an anarchy system is in charge of the commodities then why can't you sell stolen goods there? as a pirate faction surely they wouldn't care, also, when you sell to the black market there why would it undermine the controlling pirates? As surely the pirates being the criminal underbelly they are the ones to benefit or even run the black market? Sorry if I sound confused, but honestly, i am...

The controlling faction of the station (can be different to the controlling faction of the system) controls the commodities market of that station.
