Initial Thargoid Interaction

I propose that those of us whose first reaction isn't "Blast the aliens because we want excitement" band together a bit to try and offer a more diplomatic approach to encountering a "new"-ish alien species. Yes, they were violent in the past, but they've not shown any proclivity of danger just yet. They interdict and scan. With the tech they have, and our inability to follow/interact with them, they could have blown our ships to tiny cinders at first contact. No comms would have been able to send to warn humanity they were here. They seem to be scouting us out...and we should respond in kind.If you're interested, throw me an invite in game and let me know. We'll come up with some sort of name for the group later, I suppose, but for now a group of like-minded people trying to avert an explosive and deadly first contact seems reasonable.

No dice. They're different from us and different is always bad. Let's kill 'em all and let God sort them out.

I'm kidding of course, I agree with you.

Now see here, you peaceniks can dilly dally and fly the white flag, but if you get caught in the crossfire then that's just too bad.

Some of us have been waiting a very long time to get another poke at those butt-ugly, alien locusts. Back when every Commander worth his or her salt went by the name of Jameson, including yours truly. They showed no mercy to us Jamesons then, and I don't intend to show any to them now.

If they come in peace, they'll still leave in coffins.

[/RP]

Best of luck, OP, you'll need it.... :D

I say we round up all these lily liveried, white feathered, Thargoid sympathising conchys and throw em on a Mega ship and send the namby pamby apologists to Colonia to hide under a table in Jacques Bar until us grown ups have sorted out this little insect problem...

;-)

Imagine dropping into a "Distress Call - Threat 5"... only to witness a disabled Thargoid Scout being picked apart by Pirates in human space ("All those tasty Artifacts!").

Communication is likely problematic, but dispatching of the hostile Pirates and giving off a friendly o7 before dusting off should do the trick.

PS.
Please refrain from firing Refuelling Limets at any disabled Thargoid vessel. This could be misinterpreted as a hostile act... or - worst case - as an unintended initiation of ancient Thargoid mating rituals xD

[RP]I see humankind didn't learn from trying genocide the first time we had contact. At least at that point we had some people with smarts to prevent all the oorahs from going buck wild and wiping out another species. What's a good 'ole genocide between potential friends! We still know next to nothing about them, as we know next to nothing about the "Guardians". There's a hint that the G's created the T's. Why would you need to create a biomechanical weapon? That points to warlike, which could be just as bad if not worse than the T's. I, for one, don't want to potentially destroy one alien race just to find out that they're the only hope we have against the OTHER alien race out there. Then again, that's just my brains over brawn mentality.[/RP]Seriously, more dakka! Can you imagine? Dakka in this? T's vs. Orks....oi.

just like whats going on in the world. when they start killing ppl: "theyre not all like that, its just a small minotiry"

Sorry, wrong RP. Ahem.

Well, all your high fallutin' words and gilded arguments won't save you when the DAKKADAKKADAKKA soon-to-be-developed-anti-thargoid-weaponry starts firing. So don't come crying to me about it when it's all too late!

And as for the so-called 'Guardians', whatever it is they are meant to be guarding might turn out to be at odds with the security of humankind.

Chill, y'all. Why not keeping it simple?

Thargoid CMDRs are like any other CMDR:
They are either a threat or a benefit. If they are a benefit it's not my problem.

:D

Aye... just look at one of those guardian message things and see how delightful they were in war

Their main weapons were either bio-engineered lifeforms.. or genetically engineered diseases..... wonderful beings...

So lets pray the guardians are well and truely dead.... because if they are not....... we may just need the thargoids on OUR side

Bill

"ahhh helll kill 'em all' as humanity usually says about other lifeforms :D

OP, try to interest them in trade. I've already stocked various attractive items (mainly Onionhead and Perf Enhancers) and will exchange them for a visit or two to their Engineers. You'll be included in the deal.

"Haven't seen any of these aliens myself, but I've seen where they've been. No idea what they're doing, or what they want, but if they've got something to haul and something of value to offer for hauling it, I've got space in my cargo hold. Otherwise, if they leave me be, I'll leave them be. The galaxy's plenty big enough, and it's just one tiny speck in the universe. Even the universe itself might only be one tiny speck in a much larger collection of tiny specks. Of course, if they give me any [...], I'll certainly give it back."

I would like a Thargoid PC Commander purchase at the store, so I could be a Thargoid. :)
Ehhhh, I'd rather they remain a somewhat-mystery, tbh. That way it's more flexible for story. We don't want a Horde/Alliance thing going down for all the awesomeness of one side to become generic to "keep it fair". >.

I think the 'initial interaction' bit is a little too late. They've already been shot.

Now it's just a matter of what the mass/mainstream reaction is.

there isn't much content to add if it isn't combat, if they are nice all you'd get is a different avatar for some of the people on the mission board and occasionally a random ship flying about. if they are hostile they can add extremely difficult combat and strategy to ship outfitting (do I put thargoid defences or human defences). if FD can find a way to make a nice thargoid group interesting can they at least add a hostile thargoid 'faction' or a faction that is hostile to thargoids

Really? I've thought of at least 5 or 6 different ways of interacting with an NPC or AI. Even without verbal or uditory communication. Never underestimate creativity. So far, Frontier has been good about making all manner of play styles balanced.

Not all people and/or species are as reactionary as we are
Maybe they expect a certain degree of retaliation for invasion tactics, but draw a line at fl scale assault.
