Inspiration for Elite - anybody remember "Alien"?

Not sure if this has already been mentioned but they actually brought Sirgourney Sigourney Weaver and the rest of the original cast from Alien to a DLC on the Nostromo.

If you haven't seen this video you have to check it out, loads of in game footage as well, but the reactions of the people playing is the funniest:

I'm really looking forward to this game, replay value is low I think but worth the investment even for a one off, might have to get a Rift for it.

They did pretty much thesame when they released Rome 2 total war.
Locking up the greek city states in a pre order dlc, knowing full well that the greek city states are one of the most popular factions to play with in the roman era.
Offcourse later on for the same reason they sold the (overpriced) dlc separately.
Zenimax did the same **** with Elder Scrolls Online, too.

True, but atleast ESO was a playable game where we knew the features first hand from players without an nda.

Rome 2 was pretty much unplayable, the videos and pictures shown were of vastly higher quality than the released version. Many features from previous games from the series were cut for obscure reasons and any features left were bland and terribly designed.

And the developer from Alien: Isolation is the same one who released Rome 2 a year ago. The game is still a wreck even after tons of patches simply because it's the whole core gamedesign that's lacking. It belongs next to X rebirth in the hall of shame.

Scariest game I ever played

I agree I remember this and none of the new Alien games have come close. Probably because my imagination filled in the blanks like most games back then.

What I remember most about that game is that it had nothing but a map and a pulsing sound with the occasional scratching noise of the grates being removed. Occasionally a very nicely animated cat would run across the screen.

When any of the crew encounted the alien the screen would go black apart from a massive animated alien sprite dripping and making a horrible scratching noise.

I hadn't seen the movie so I had no idea why these people wanted the cat so badly and it was, quite frankly, the first time a computer game had genuinely freaked me out.

The 8-bit Aliens game was scary too (the one where you just moved around rooms with a cross hair and occasionally one would walk up to the screen and bite your head off)

Alien Trilogy for PS1 was pretty scary aswell.
Atleast back when i played it when i was 10 or something.
Was a doom like fps, but the feeling was quite distinct.
The music was awesome aswell.

 This ...is.....really....not.....I....must....not see....

The late H.R. Giger influence shall not be discussed, but perhaps still be missed, with that distinctive mind that made things seen, that cannot be unseen, an art lost on those of the forever after. ;)
