Installation problems..downloading

Hi all,

Coming back to the game after a few years..however after running the installer, logging on the clicking either Elite:Horizons or Odyssey to install and appearing fine the sync files downloads bar just stops randomly. The first time I tried to download E:Odyssey I left it on overnight to download yet only the bar was only a third completed...Happened again with E:Horizons so wondering if anyone else has had the same issue..

TIA

If you continue to have issues please open Control Panel on your PC; select Internet Options. Select the Connections tab, select LAN settings, and make sure Automatically detect settings is unticked.
particularly this

if you own ED:O then you need to make sure you have at least 70gb free disk space (if your using an SSD an additional 25% free is also recommended because windows)

if ED is starting to download it should continue to download where it left off if the download fails for any reason

Tried the above solution but install still stopping around half the way through..can't restart as its shows "Play" instead of install...

Nope still stopping after a few minutes of syncing files..it stops on whatever download speed it was at and doesnt move. Leaving it for a while doesnt make any difference

I just left it for an hour and it finally finished.
Try starting Horizons and see if it triggers the install, that worked for me.

what gully foyle says is true, sometimes it can appear the download has stalled and will need to be left a few minutes for it to resume

however you could try the following from the launcher
from options click to activate "detailed update log"
if the game refuses to update by itself set force verify again
wait for it to fail and close the launcher
browse to your ED install folder > logs > open elite_dangerus_update.log in notepad
your looking for startdownload : download failed - start download should name the file and its location within the ED folders
ie { "action" : "StartDownload", "File" : "C:\Games\steamapps\common\EliteDangerous\Products\elite-dangerous-64\EliteDangerous64.exe"
{ "action" : "DownloadAttemptFailed", "Retries" : "4",
browse to the file named you should see two files with the same name and extension .part and .progress delete both ie Elitedangerous64.exe.part and EliteDangrous.exe.progress

if you cant identify the file from the log search for all .part and .progress files you find within the ED folders
you could jump to the last step but these part and progress files could be anywhere within the ED folder structure

NB: you may need to enable showing file extensions - file explorer > view menu > file name extensions

Luckily I have an Epic store installation as well and that seems to upgrade smothly with no issues. I then copy those files over the Frontier store game instance files, start it up, re-log in and works fine.
